The explosion at a house in Burdwan district`s Khagragarh killed two suspected Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen militants and injured another. Amid allegations of the Trinamool trying to cover up the probe, the central government Oct 9 directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to take over the probe of the incident in which a banned Bangladeshi militant group is suspected to be involved. "The incident involves the security of the nation and the centre has all the right to direct the NIA to investigate it. There is nothing unconstitutional in this. In fact, the state government which has been opposing the NIA, did nothing to unravel the facts," Ganguly said here on the sidelines of a programme here. After the union home ministry suo motu directed the NIA to take over the probe, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the Narendra Modi government at the Centre of "interfering in the state`s affairs and attacking federalism". A known critic of the Banerjee government, Ganguly, a former chairperson of the state`s rights panel, said the NIA probe will throw up "uncomfortable facts" for the Trinamool. Saradha scam KOLKATA, Oct 13: Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday grilled painter Shuvoprasanna and industrialist Harsh Neotia in connection with the Saradha scam. Both of them had been asked to appear before the agency for questioning their alleged involvement in the scam. Shuvoprasanna, considered close to ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, allegedly sold a TV channel he owned to Saradha Group chief Sudipto Sen, now in jail custody. He was also involved in setting up the sprawling Arts Acre Foundation campus at Rajarhat. Neotia was also grilled by ED officers to ascertain the nature of his association with the painter and had bought several paintings by him. "I have been knowing Shuvoprasanna for many years and was a like a friend to me. I also bought several pictures painted by him", Neotia told PTI. CBI had also summoned Shuvoprasanna in connection with the Saradha case. Facelift for Gandhi Maidan with ‘Love Jihad’ row takes new turn, new gates, CCTVs in Bihar Meerut girl retracts statement PATNA, Oct 13: Recognising the shortcomings which resulted in a stampede, and bomb blasts at a rally last year, the Bihar government is working on a plan to give a facelift to the Gandhi Maidan by installing broad gates and CCTV cameras. "Work is in progress to give a facelift to the Gandhi Maidan for better security and civic facilities," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jitendra Rana told PTI. A stampede in Gandhi Maidan on October 3 after the 'Ravana Vadh (slaying of the demon king)' left 33 dead and 29 others injured. On October 27, 2013, six serial bomb blasts had rocked the Maidan just before Narendra Modi's address a gathering. Five persons were killed and 66 were injured in the incident. Previously known as the Patna Lawns, Gandhi Maidan is a historic ground near the banks of River Ganga. Several movements were launched here during the freedom struggle, including the Champaran movement and the Quit India movement of 1942. The 1974 JP movement was also launched from this historic ground. The world's tallest 70-feet Gandhi statue was installed at this ground last year. Rana, who succeeded Manu Maharaj as SSP Patna in the wake of the stampede, said like Pragati Maidan in Delhi, Gandhi Maidan would have three broad gates in funnel shape with facility of public address system and the gates would provide buffer zone to the people so that they do not get directly exposed to heavy traffic on the main road Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi for raising marriage age to 25 PATNA, Oct 13: Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Monday favoured raising the marriage age to 25 in tune with "Ashrama system" prescribed in Hindu philosophy for good health and getting rid of the problem of malnutrition. "I belief marriage age for both boy and girl be raised to 25 in accordance with the age old tradition of Ashrama system," Manjhi told reporters on the sidelines of "Janata ke Darbar me Mukhya Mantri" programme. The Ashrama system divides life into four stages on the basis of age. The first stage is "Brahmacharya" (celibacy) till the age of 24.Second one is "Grihastha" from 24-48, then "Vanaprastha" (48-72) and finally "Sannyasa" (72 till demise). There was sound reasoning for categorisation of stages in the Shastras, he said and attributed the ills of health problem, population explosion and malnutrition due to violation of the age-old practise. "Why height of an average person has come down to 5 feet from earlier 7 feet?" he asked and attributed it to early marriage. The 70-year-old CM cited his own example and said he got married after 25 and that's the reason even at this age he does not take any medicine. "Lifting marriage age to 25 will solve the problems of bad health and malnutrition among women and infants prevalent in society today," he said. ––PTI GOVERNMENT OF MANIPUR DIRECTORATE OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRIES NOTICE Imphal, the 13th October, 2014 No.HL-269/C&I/2014: Applications in the prescribed form are invited from interested Weavers, Artisans, Entrepreneurs, NGOs, Companies, Firms, State and Central Govt. Mishra has urged Home Minister Rajnath Singh to provide him and his family protection. "After I exposed the fake freedom fighters, the freedom fighter mafia is after me," Mishra said. The matter of alleged gangrape and conversion in August was latched up by the BJP whose leaders including Yogi Adityanath, state in charge of by-elections, exploiting the issue, especially in western parts of the state. The alleged perpetrator Kaleem and eight others were arrested after the girl had alleged on August 3 that she had been abducted, gangraped and forcibly converted to Islam. It is now exposed that Meerut police under the direction of UP government has come out in protecting criminals,” Bajpaye said. RTI activist fears threat to life LOST GRATITUDE GRATITUDE after stepping out from the ground. The narrow opening of the gate towards Ramgoolam Chowk has been highlighted as one of the main reasons for the stampede along with poor light arrangements. The Maidan of around 2.5 km radius would have four watch towers manned by security personnel, the SSP said, adding that vehicles near the Gandhi Maidan police station would be removed. Rana said a committee of prominent citizens would be constituted for maintenance of the ground from rent collected and the District Magistrate, SSP and other officials would be its members. The committee would be approved tomorrow at a meeting convened by the Divisional Commissioner, he said. "I am afraid they can harm me physically or can trap me in some fake cases," he said. In a letter to Rajnath Singh, he has demanded a high-level probe over the non-availability of records in respect of the Swatantra Senani Samman Pension scheme. Mishra said he had requested the departments concerned through RTI to provide a complete list of freedom fighters drawing pension in Bihar. He said he was informed that there were no such records with the Bihar government. "It is a matter of deep concern that the government is spending crores of rupees annually without any accountability. "I can tell you confidently that nearly 90 percent of claims of freedom fighters in Bihar are forged. "These people are getting pension after submitting fake documents. Interestingly, 80 percent of them were not even born during our country's freedom movement." According to Mishra, some people running the racket in Bihar were forging documents to "create" spurious freedom fighters. He said he was "in deep trouble" because the mafia had threatened him and his family. "I am getting calls from unknown numbers. They are threatening me with dire consequences. "They are also threatening to seize all my assets and land in my native village (in Bihar). Due to this, my parents have been living in trauma for the last two weeks," he said.
