ANNOUNCEMENTS
SALEM BIBLE INSTITUTE - will be offering 2 day classes for their 2014 Fall Semester. These
classes will be conducted on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 10:15am-12 Noon. Look for flyers
with course names and start dates. Register in Fellowship Hall or see Vera Salters, Dean.
COMFORT CARE SUPPORTERS . . . People of faith believe that they do not have to suffer alone
because God is the source of all comfort. While there is recognition that there is a need to support
and comfort people at the end of life (EOL), most people and churches struggle with the best way
to support congregants who have a life-limiting illness as well as supporting their family members
and loved ones. Salem Baptist Church will be participating in an education, training, and research
program with Dr. Jerry Johnson and Tara Hayden of the University of Penn. During the course of
their research and professional experiences, Dr. Johnson and Ms. Hayden have been told by many
that if the support comes, it comes too late or it does not respond to some of the major causes of
distress for persons with life illnesses and their families. As a result of their experiences, they have
initiated a program to provide support and comfort to those who have life-limiting illness earlier
rather than later. In one component of the program, members of the Salem have the opportunity to
be trained as Comfort Care Supporters, providing new knowledge and skills that will allow them
to support church members. If you are interested in volunteering to participate in this program,
please contact Fredericka Waugh at [email protected] to discuss the eligibility criteria and
requirements for participation and make applications available.
The AMERICAN BAPTIST WOMEN’S MINISTRY (ABWM) invites you to join them as they
venture on a new journey . . . “THE GRATEFUL CHALLENGE!” Directions: 1) Each day, for 6
days, state 3 things for which you are grateful. 2) On the 7 th day, challenge 3 other people to do the
same; but that doesn’t mean you have to stop! 3) They in turn will continue the same pattern. Let us
praise our Lord by showing unity of His Spirit. We all have a reason to praise the Lord; Let us join
together, stand, be grateful and be counted! Please sign the display board in Fellowship Hall to
confirm your participation.
NOONDAY PRAYER is held each Wednesday at 12:30 pm in the Family Life Center Prayer Room.
Join us as we pray for the sick & shut-in, our children, our families, our church and our nation.
