ANNOUNCEMENTS
HONORING THE SANCTUARY . . . Please be reminded to respect the sanctity of God’s house
by not bringing food or beverages, including water bottles, in the Sanctuary. Also, please do not
stick items in the bible/hymnal holder compartment of the pews & remember to take all of your
belongings with you. The only place food and beverages are to be consumed is in Fellowship
Hall. Let us all be good stewards and not risk ruining church property and wasting tithes made to
God on repairs that would not otherwise be necessary. Thanks to everyone for your cooperation.
SYMPATHY TO . . . David and Deaconess Wanda Roberts & Family in the transition of his sister,
Audrey Roberts of South Carolina.
Harvest Month Thanksgiving Baskets
This year, the Deacon and Deaconess ministries of Salem Baptist Church have decided to become a
major Thanksgiving Basket Program partner with the Urban Affairs Coalition and Brown’s
ShopRite grocery. Through this alliance, we will help reach over 1,000 of the neediest families
within the Montgomery County and Philadelphia communities.
During the month of November, we will be asking for monetary contributions through our Mission
Ministry offerings. Harvest month envelopes will be provided with your weekly worship service
programs. Our financial support toward UAC’s 31 st annual Thanksgiving Basket Program will
meet our $2,500 pledge, and provide dinners for 125 families in need. We will have an opportunity
to set aside, and identify 70 families in need to receive thanksgiving baskets. Each dinner feeds a
family of 6, or a total of 750 men, women and children will enjoy a blessed thanksgiving holiday
through our giving sacrifice.
Brown’s ShopRite will provide the boxes, turkeys, non-perishable items and fresh baked pie. In
addition, our Salem church logo will be placed on all public relations materials as a partner for the
Thanksgiving Basket Program. Volunteers will be needed to assist with the packaging, Saturday,
November 22nd @ 9am at Brown’s ShopRite 24th Street & Oregon Ave. location. Volunteers will
also be required for the distribution, Monday, November 24th @ 9am. Pastor Mitchell will provide
the official invocation at the Press Conference, prior to the distribution event. All volunteers must
be age 13 and older.
Please contact one of the Mission Ministry leaders: Deacon Gregory Harvey, 267-664-1119
[email protected] or Rev. Thomas Jeffcoat, 215-285-1238 [email protected] to join
our volunteer efforts.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Top 5 questions you may have about Salem Baptist Church’s COMFORT CARE SUPPORTER
PROGRAM: (1) Why is Salem partnering to establish a Comfort Care Supporter Program? (2)
What is the goal of the Comfort Care Support Program and whom will it target? (3) What does a
Comfort Care Supporter do? (4) Who is eligible to be a Comfort Care Supporter? (5) How do I
become a Comfort Care Supporter? Join us on Sunday, November 9, 2014 immediately after the
10:00 am service in FLC Acts Suite @ 12:15 and Dr. Johnson and Tara Hayden will be available to
provide interested members with information and to answer questions about the Program.
COMFORT CARE SUPPORTERS . . . People of faith believe that they do not have to suffer alone
because God is the source of all comfort. While there is recognition that there is a need to support
and comfort people at the end of life (EOL), most people and churches struggle with the best way
to support congregants who have a life-limiting illness as well as supporting their family members
and loved ones. Salem Baptist Church will be participating in an education, training, and research
program with Dr. Jerry Johnson and Tara Hayden of the University of Penn. During the course of
their research and professional experiences, Dr. Johnson and Ms. Hayden have been told by many
that if the support comes, it comes too late or it does not respond to some of the major causes of
distress for persons with life illnesses and their families. As a result of their experiences, they have
initiated a program to provide support and comfort to those who have life-limiting illness earlier
rather than later. In one component of the program, members of the Salem have the opportunity to
be trained as Comfort Care Supporters, providing new knowledge and skills that will allow them
to support church members. If you are interested in volunteering to participate in this program,
please contact Fredericka Waugh at [email protected] to discuss the eligibility criteria and
requirements for participation and make applications available.

SNAP Outreach Coordinator who will walk through a step-by-step SNAP Application process.
