Kirkkopulletiini OF FINNISH LUTHERAN CHURCH January 2015 Hyvät ystävät, Rakkaat terveiset teille Helsingistä! Palasin kotiin Suomeen viikko ennen joulua. Sain teidän luotanne mukaani taas paljon hyviä muistoja. Oli ilo tavata monet teistä, jutella ja viettää aikaa yhdessä erilaisissa tilaisuuksissa. Lämmin kiitos teille yhteisestä ajasta ja vieraanvaraisuudesta. Olen jälleen hyvin kiitollisella mielellä kaikesta kokemastani ystävällisyydestä. Suomessa on juhlittu joulua lumisen maiseman keskellä. Helsinkiinkin satoi kunnon lumipeite kaksi päivää ennen joulua. Syksyn pimeys väistyi jouluna ihan kirjaimellisesti, kun valkoinen lumi heijastaa valoa. Jeesuksen syntymäpäivään sopii hyvin ajatus siitä, että valo voittaa pimeän. Uusi vuosi on juuri alkamassa. Olen huomannut, että vuodenvaihteen tienoilla mielessäni alkaa joka vuosi soida eräs vanha laulu. Olen viettänyt lapsuuteni ja nuoruuteni loma-ajat, myös joululomat mummolassa KeskiSuomessa. Vuonna 1917 syntynyt Pappani lauloi tätä laulua aina joka vuosi vanhan vuoden päättyessä. Pappani lauloi vanhan miehen karhealla äänellä, samalla hyvin levollisesti ja hartaasti. Voin vieläkin kuulla Papan laulun korvissani, vaikka hän on jo päässyt Taivaan kotiin monta vuotta sitten. Musiikki painuu syvälle muistiin ja tunteisiin. Tämä laulu on kansakoululaulu ja sen on säveltänyt Mikael Nyberg vuonna 1900. Sanat on kirjoittanut runoilija Immi Hellén. Laulu on kuin rukous vuoden vaihtuessa. Annamme päiviemme vaiheet Jumalan käsiin ja luotamme hänen hyvään johdatukseensa, vaikeinakin aikoina. Tässä on laulun ensimmäinen ja viimeinen säkeistö: Vuosi vanha vaipui hautaan riemuineen ja murheineen. Ihmissydän puhkee nöyrään rukoukseen, kiitokseen. Oi, jos vuosi alkava oisi Luojan siunaama. Korkehimman haltuun anna kallihimmat toivehes, pienet huolesikin kanna Hän ne kääntää parhaakses. Hänpä vuoden alkaneen johtaa hyvään päätökseen Toivon Sinulle onnellista ja Jumalan runsaasti siunaamaa Uutta Vuotta 2015! Parhain terveisin, Dear friends, Warmest greetings to you from Helsinki! I returned home to Finland the week before Christmas. And again I took with me a lot of good memories. It was a pleasure to meet many of you, to talk and spend time together at various events. A warm thank you for the time and hospitality. Again, I am very grateful for all the good cheer so much kindness. Finland has celebrated Christmas in the middle of the snowy landscape. Helsinki received a good snow cover two days before Christmas. The autumn darkness gave way to Christmas, literally, with the white snow reflecting the light. Jesus' birthday is well suited to the idea that light overcomes darkness. The new year is about to begin. I have noticed that at the turn of the year the tune of an old song begins to ring in my mind every year. I spent the holiday periods in my childhood and youth, including the Christmas holidays at grandma's place in Central Finland. My grandfather, born in 1917,always sang this song at the end of the year the old He sang it with the old man's rough voice, at the same time very quietly and earnestly. I can still hear his song in my ears, even though he is already home in Heaven many years ago. Music makes a deep memory and emotion. This song is sung in the elementary schools, and it was composed by Mikael Nyberg in 1900. The words are written by the poet Immi Hellén. The song is like a prayer for the coming New Year. We will leave our steps in God's hands and trust in his good guidance, even in difficult times. This is the first and the last verse: The old year dwindled to the grave with its joys and sorrows. The human heart is filled with humble prayer, praise. Oh, if the year now beginning would be blessed by the Creator. May the Highest give you your dearest wishes may he carry even your smallest worries.He turns them to the best. He leads the year now started to a good ending. Sincerely, Pastor Marita Toivonen December events: Kaunemmat joululaulut - Dec 4Pastor Marita Toivonen guided us through the Kauneimmat Joululaulut with some 45 singers all excited to start the Christmas Season to familiar tunes and tasty rice porridge and raisin soup Kantele Mass on December 7 with Pastor Marita Lucia celebration, December 14 with Kerttu Juntila's great grand daughter as Lucia and star girls and star boys Organist Dr. Joan Purswell and Sister Liz Colver took care of the service on Dec 21 Christmas Day Service on December 25 again filled the church for a special service with Christmas readings, joyful singing and music performances including "Ave Maria" and "Varpunen jouluaamuna" by Maria Mannisto accompanied by Kalevala Trio. The Annual Meeting of the Finnish Lutheran Church is on January 25 at 11:30 AM following the church service. Throughout the colonies that would later become the United States. This early American textbook was based largely on the Bible, and it used pictures and rhymes on Scriptures to help children learn to read. It also included prayers like this: " Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray to Lord, my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray that he my soul to take." In Colonial America , this became a way that one generation was able to pass along their faith to the next generation. It fit well with what God wanted of His people: "These words which I command You shall be in your heart.
