Eric Peterson of Cuyuna
and Raymond Liebold of
Ironton, had a very narrow
escape from serious injuries
Sunday evening when their
automobiles collided on the
corner of Second Street east
and Main Street. The cars
were smashed up considerable and one of the cars is
minus a front wheel.
The Carpenters are nearing the completion of the W.
L. Merrick residence across
the street from the Armory
and will have the same ready
for occupancy about the middle of next month. This is
one of the new residences
being erected in Crosby this
year and is a very attractive
home.
Elmer Anderson received
a shipment of army shirts
this week and is now offering
them for sale. They are displayed in the John Hill building on 1st Street North.

The Mobil gas station in
Deerwood, which has been
operated by Chet Carlson, has
been leased to Alfred
Ruschmeyer, who returned
recently from California.

will be in the local line-up on

months period ending Oct.

Crosby-Ironton
high
school and grade school students will again this year be
offered free admission to
special movies to be shown
at the Peoples and Ironton
Theatres in exchange for
their pledge that they will
refrain from mischievous
pranks on Halloween night.
Zane Grey of Altadena,
CA, noted writer and sportsman, died suddenly Monday
at his home. He was 64 years
old.
The new staff for the
Crosby-Ironton
Junior
College paper, “The Blast”
has been named. John
Crosby was named editor.
The brickwork at the
Cuyuna school house was
completed the fore part of
the week and the plastering
is finished, consequently, it
is expected that it will be
ready for occupancy by early
November.

Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1959
An early morning fire at
the Crosby Locker Saturday
did extensive damage to the
smoke house, completely gutted the basement of the building and left its smoke and
water damage in the grocery
and meat department.
The mayor who has served
Ironton for 24 consecutive
years submitted his resignation at the village council
meeting last week. Curtis
Johnson, who was elected
mayor of Ironton in 1935 and
has been re-elected continuously since, is retiring from
office.
The
Crosby-Ironton
Rangers varsity football team
suffered their first defeat of
the
1959
season
last
Wednesday, losing by seven
points to the Brainerd
Warriors.
The leaders of the Girl
Scouts and the Brownie
Troops have repainted the
council room in the Deerwood
auditorium and will use it as a
club room for their meetings.

Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1969
Trail-A-Sled, Inc., local
snowmobile manufacturing
firm has announced a name
change. The company will
now be titled, Scorpion, Inc.,
to further identify the machine
it manufactures.
With 400 people present,
including 20-plus Cedarbrook
Manor
residents,
the
Generation Jamboree on
Saturday would have to be
termed a success.
With the announcement
that federal funds are immediately available to provide a
community room for senior
citizens,
the
Ironton
Commercial Club, meeting in
regular session Monday afternoon, took action to appoint a
steering committee to investigate the local sentiment for
such a facility and available
locations.
U. S. Air Force Captain
Michael R. Polich, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Polich,
Deerwood, has received the
Air Medal for air action in
Southeast Asia.

Lake Region Agency in
Crosby.
Kelly Frazier and Mark
Young placed second and
third in the District 18A cross
country meet to qualify individually for the regional. The
cross country team took second place as a team at the district meet.

Deerwood, is now open to
traffic.
Carol Mills was named
EMT of the Year by the

Firemen from Deerwood,
Crosby and Cuyuna fought an
early morning fire last
Thursday, Oct. 19, which
completely destroyed a building owned by Dave Zontelli
and $160,000 to $200,000
worth of inventory for
JAACO Inc., a Crosby company which manufactures
doors and windows.
The slow demolition of the
Franklin school building is
currently
taking
place.
Demolition is expected to be
completed by the end of
November.
Gordy Forbort began work
as Cuyuna Range Hospital’s
chief financial officer recent-
ly.
