Call to Worship
There She Stands
Michael W. Smith
Valerie Gill, solo
When the night seems to say all hope is lost, gone away
But I know I’m not alone; by the light she stands
There she waves, faithful friend, shimmering stars, westward wind
Show the way, carry me to the place she stands.
Just when you think it might be over; Just when you think the fight is gone
Someone will risk his life to raise her. There she stands.
There she flies, clear blue skies; reminds us with red of those that died
Washed in white by the brave in their strength, she stands.
When evil calls itself a martyr; when all your hopes come crashing down
Someone will pull her from the rubble. There she stands.
We’ve seen her flying torn and tattered. We’ve seen her stand the test of time
And through it all the fools have fallen. There she stands.
By the dawn’s, early light and through the fight. She stands.

Hello Partner Churches!
The Griffiths’ long awaited furlough is finally
here! They left Baawa this past Monday and
will make their way to the USA over the next
several weeks. Nick, Heidi and Gilly will make
a few stops and visits to family and then board
a ship in Spain to make their way across the
pond!! They will be here on furlough until
March! Family visits for the holidays, catching
up with friends, eating hamburgers, visiting
partner churches, the Mission Society and
just some plain R and R is what furlough is all
about!
For those churches that scheduled a partner
church visit---Thank you! Nick, Heidi and
Gilly look forward to sharing with you! Their
visit schedule is now full--- however, they will
be sharing at their home church, Jodeco Road
UMC, in the near future---you may wish to
join us at this date to be announced!!
Please be in prayer for safe travels and for good
health on their trip home and on furlough!
They are excited beyond measure--and so are
we!!
Blessings,
The Griffith’s Home Team

What is the relationship of our Christian faith
with personal finances? As we begin our drive
to commit our finances to God’s church this
question is an important question for each of
us to ask ourselves. How is faith and finances
related? The Bible reveals very clearly how the
two are related. If we study closely the words
of Jesus we will realize that he spoke on the
topic of “love’ more than any other theme. The
second most talked about topic Jesus spoke of
is that of finances. Why do you suppose Jesus
spoke about finances and money so often?
Do you think maybe Jesus knew that our
finances and money might be the one thing
that separates us from a complete, whole and
trusting relationship with him?
Do you remember when Jesus went to the
home of the crooked tax collector, Zacchaeus,
and he was so touched by Jesus’ words of grace
and love that the money he took from the Jews
he returned four fold and became a faithful
follower of Jesus?
Also there was a time that Jesus was asked
by a potential follower what he must do to
inherit eternal life. Jesus said, “…sell what
you own, and give the money to the poor and
you will have treasure in heaven; then come,
follow me.” The man walked away from the
gift of everlasting life because, “he had many
possessions.” Then Jesus said to his disciples,
“How hard it will be for those who have wealth
to enter the kingdom of God…It is easier for
a camel to go through the eye of a needle than
for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom
of God.” Jesus said this as he taught the
disciples that people will trust money rather
than having faith in Him.
One last story (there are many, many more)
of Jesus teaching about our faith and our
personal finances. Remember the story of
Jesus observing many rich people placing
their offerings in the Temple treasury and
the widow who placed only 2 copper coins
(equals 1 penny) into the treasury. He told
the disciples that the widow gave more than
all others because the others gave out of their
abundance but the widow gave all she had.
Please consider these teachings of Jesus
about faith and finances as you consider your
offering to your church. Also, consider the
question; “Is my offering a true expression of
thankfulness to God for his gift of eternal life
through the death of his Son, Jesus?”
Peace and grace,
Med
