RCIA- RITES OF SCRUTINY
We look forward to the baptism of five adults during the
Holy Saturday Vigil. This Lent is for them a time of
“purification and enlightenment” to be marked by rites called
“The Scrutinies.” These take place on the third, fourth and
fifth Sundays of Lent. The Third Rite of Scrutiny takes place
this weekend at the 11:15 Mass.

Collection Report
The first collection last week dropped to $3749. We thank
those who take responsibility for the parish by their steady,
Sunday after Sunday support. Again, we suggest that an
appropriate weekly donation for most people, for all those
who are not truly in great personal financial distress, is closer
to $5 than $1.
Catholic Relief Services
We thank those who responded so generously to last week’s
collection for Catholic Relief Services. Our parishioners
contributed $1,707.

Open House
St. Philip Neri School will hold an Open House on Saturday,
May 2, between 9 and 11am. Parents are invited to consider
our excellent school for their children.
UPK at SPN
We are very pleased to announce that St. Philip Neri School
has been accepted as a site for the City of New York’s
expanded Universal Pre-Kindergarten program. Inquiries
should be made at the school, 718-365-1482.
Lenten Self-Denial
The Church obliges Catholics 14 years of age or older to
abstain from meat on the Fridays in Lent. This very simple
discipline serves to remind us to make our own acts of
voluntary self-denial during Lent. These may include, in
addition to fasting, participation in daily Mass, spiritual
studies, Stations of the Cross, the saying of the Rosary, and
deeds of mercy and kindness.
Cardinal’s Appeal
We thank the 55 parishioners who as of Friday March 13 had
pledged $14,646.00 towards our goal of $32,000
Irish Luncheon
Those who attended the St. Patrick’s Day luncheon last
Sunday were unanimously emphatic about how much they
enjoyed the event, the music, the dancing, the food and drink
and, most of all, the family spirit. The afternoon was a great
success both socially and monetarily. It raised $2,125 for the
benefit of the parish.

Special Needs Mass
A mass is offered for families with loved ones on the autism
spectrum and with other challenging behaviors if offered twice
a month at 4:00pm at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 152

For those who are suffering in the aftermath of divorce or
separation, a special program will be offered on Wednesdays
from April 8 to June 24 from 7 to 9pm at St. Barnabas Parish,
The Considine Center, 413 East 241 Street. “The Catholic
Divorce Survival Guide” will help you learn how to work
through the emotions of separation and divorce, experience
personal healing and hope, gain wisdom and comfort from
others who share your experience, address questions of
forgiveness and new family dynamics, and obtain an
understanding of the annulment process. The cost is $35 and it
covers light refreshments and handout during the 12-evening

Quinto Domingo de Cuaresma
Abnegación Cuaresmal
Durante los viernes de Cuaresma, es importante abstenerse de
comer carne. Aquellos mayores de 14 años, tienes la obligación de
abstenerse y respetar ese día. La abnegación nos sirve como
disciplina y nos ayuda a que hagamos y mantengamos nuestros
propios sacrificios durante la Cuaresma. A esto se le puede añadir,
el ayuno, asistir a misa diaria, estudios espirituales, las estaciones de
la Cruz, rezar el Santo Rosario y ser partícipes de hechos de piedad
y bondad.

Época Cuaresmal
Las Estaciones de la Cruz se llevan a cabo cada viernes durante la
Cuaresma. 6:45pm en inglés y 7:30pm en español
Los Escrutinios
Esperamos ansiosamente el bautizo de cinco de nuestros adultos
durante la vigilia del sábado santo. Para ellos, la Cuaresma es
momento de “purificación y aclaración” y se caracteriza por los ritos
llamados “Escrutinios.” Los ritos tomaran lugar en el tercer, cuarto y
quinto domingo de Cuaresma. El segundo rito del Escrutinio se
llevara a cabo este fin de semana en la misa de 11:15pm.
Informe de Ofrendas
La semana pasada, la primera colecta bajo a $3,749.Agradecemos su
constante generosidad y fidelidad, cada domingo hacia con su
parroquia. Una vez más, sugerimos, aquellos que tengan la
posibilidad financiera, sus donaciones semanales sean de $5 dólares.
Servicios de Alivio Católico
Agradecemos aquellas personas por sus contribuciones durante la
colecta en beneficio a los Servicios de Alivio Católico. Nuestra
parroquia contribuyó con una cantidad total de $1,707 dólares.
Almuerzo en celebración a San Patricio
Aquellos que asistieron el domingo pasado al almuerzo del Día de
San Patricio, nos dieron sus comentarios, y sabemos que gozaron de
un día lleno de música, diversión, baile, comida y bebidas; pero más
que nada, disfrutaron de un día familiar. Gracias a ustedes logramos
recaudar $42,125 que serán utilizados en beneficio a nuestra
parroquia.
Campaña del Cardenal
Agradecemos a los 55 de nuestros feligreses, quienes desde marzo
13, se han comprometido en contribuir $14,646.00 hacia nuestra
meta de $32,000.00.

“Defiende tu matrimonio, defiende tu familia” El día 30 de mayo de

¿Qué sigue después del divorcio?
Después de un divorcio o separación, hay algunas personas que
sufren las secuelas de tal evento. Aquellos que aun están pasando
por esa etapa, se les invita a que asistan los miércoles, de 7-9pm,
comenzado el 8 de abril al Considine Center, ubicado en el 413 East
calle 241, en la parroquia San Barnabas. “El Divorcio; la guía
Católica de supervivencia” les ayudara a superar el proceso de un
divorcio, y lo que conlleva. Tendrán la oportunidad de compartir
con otras personas, que al igual que ustedes están pasando por una
misma experiencia. Podrán hacer preguntas en respecto al perdón,
tanto personal como externo, y también aprenderán a cómo
adaptarse a su nueva dinámica familiar. El costo total de este
programa es de $35 dólares y cubre las 12 sesiones más bebidas
