At the mid-point of Lent this Sunday, our Readings call
us “back to basics”. In the First Reading we hear the Ten
Commandments as given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai.
They are unconditional commands or prohibitions. We
must also see how God presents the Ten Commandments in
a relationship of love, caring, and forgiveness that began at
the time of the Exodus: “I, the Lord, am your God, who brought you out of
the land of Egypt…bestowing mercy down to the thousandth generation on
the children of those who love me and keep my commandments.”
God cares, God invites, God wants his people to be close, so much so that
he sends his Son who is “Christ crucified…the power of God and the wisdom of God” (Paul tells us in the Second Reading). This day in Lent is our
time to turn back to God and walk in his ways with our whole heart and
soul.

nos llaman a “ volver al principio, a lo básico”. En la Primera
Lectura escuchamos los Diez Mandamientos dados a Moisés en
el monte Sinaí. Son en sí mandatos o prohibiciones incondicionales, categóricos. Tenemos qué poner atención y descubrir
la manera en que Dios presenta los diez Mandamientos, en una
relación de amor, de cuidado y perdón, que comienza en el
tiempo del Exodo: “ Yo soy el Señor, ti Dios, que te sacó de la tierra de
Egipto…soy misericordioso hasta la milésima generación de aquellos que
me aman y cumplen mis mandamientos”. Dios nos cuida, nos invita, Dios
quiere a su Pueblo cerca. Nos ama tanto que envía a su Hijo que es “Cristo
crucificado…poder de Dios y sabiduría de Dios” ( dice San Pablo en la
Segunda Lectura ). Este día de la Cuaresma es nuestro tiempo de volver a
Dios y caminar en sus caminos con todo nuestro corazón y con toda nuestra
alma.

At the 12:30 PM Spanish Mass and 5:30 PM evening Mass this Sunday we celebrate the “Scrutinies” as part of the Lenten experience in
preparation for Easter. The Scrutinies are solemn public prayers made
by all the people of God on behalf of those who are to receive the
Easter Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist at the
Easter Vigil. Self-knowledge, self-scrutiny is very important for all as
we reflect on God’s Word in this Lenten season of penance and preparation for Easter.

Many thanks to all who are responding to our parish Capital Campaign for our new Church and Parish Hall. The Campaign continues •
until the end of March. We are very grateful to all who are making a
five year pledge commitment to this new Campaign “A Time to Build
our Faith, our Church, Our Community.” More information will be
found in today’s bulletin.

News on a new Parish Hall: New cost estimates on building a new
Parish Hall will be available soon and final decisions will then be
made by the Archdiocese about the old Church and the new Parish
Hall. We will share the news at that time.

We hope to have a Parish Picnic on the Feast of Pentecost, June 4th.
The first planning meeting will take place this Thursday evening,
March 23rd at 7:30 PM in the Conference Center. Each parish ministry or organization is asked to send two representatives.

Este Domingo, en la Misa de Español de 12:30 PM y la de Inglés de
5:30 PM, estaremos celebrando los “Escrutinios”, con los grupos de
Español y de Inglés del Rito de Iniciación para Adultos ( RICA ) y (
RCIA), como parte de la experiencia de Cuaresma, en preparación para
la Pascua. Los Escrutinios son Oraciones públicas solemnes, hechas por
todo el pueblo de Dios en nombre de aquellos que recibirán los Sacramentos del Bautismo, Confirmación Primera Comunión, en la Vigilia
Pascual. El conocimiento propio, el escrutinio propio ( descubrirse uno
mismo ) es muy importante para todos, mientras reflexionamos en la
Palabra de Dios en esta Cuaresma, como tiempo de penitencia y de
paraparación para la Pascua.
Muchas gracias a todos los que están respondiendo a nuestra Campaña
Capital parroquial, para continuar con nuestra nueva Iglesia y Salón
Parroquial. La Campaña continuará hasta finales de marzo. Estamos
muy agradecidos con las parsonas que ya se han comprometido por
cinco años más, con nuestra nueva Campaña “ Es TIempo de Construir
nuestra Fe, nuestra Iglesia, nuestra Comunidad”. Encontrarán más información en el boletín de hoy.
