‫נעליים חדשות לפסח‬
‫‪CD: Track 2‬‬
‫אבא לא היה קונה לנו בגדים חדשים לחג‪ .‬הוא היה אומר‪ :‬השבת והחג‬
‫מחדשים את האדם‪ .‬כל מי שנראה מלוכלך ומלא אבק בימות החול –‬
‫הופך יפה ונקי‪.‬‬
‫הוא סיפר לנו על רב עני וחכם שהתארח בעיר גדולה‪ .‬הזמינו אותו לדרוש‬
‫בבית הכנסת בשבת‪ ,‬אבל הוא הגיע בבגדים מלוכלכים וישנים‪ .‬כששאלו‬
‫אותו למה לא החליף בגדים לכבוד השבת‪ ,‬ענה‪" :‬השבת משנה הכל‪.‬‬
‫הנשמה גדלה‪ ,‬והבגד הופך יפה יותר"‪ .‬ובאמת כשדיבר נראה פתאום יפה‪,‬‬
‫גבוה ולובש בגדים מפוארים‪.‬‬
‫אבל אפילו שאבא לא קנה לנו בגדים לחג‪ ,‬תמיד היה קונה לנו נעליים‬
‫חדשות לפסח‪ .‬נעליים חזקות וטובות‪ .‬ולמה קנה נעליים ולא בגדים? כי‬
‫חג הפסח הוא חג הגאולה‪ .‬ואם יבוא המשיח ויוביל אותנו לארץ‬
‫הבחירה‪ ,‬צריך שיהיו לנו נעליים חזקות‪ .‬ככה נוכל ללכת במדבר ולא‬
‫ליפול‪.‬‬
‫אבא סיפר לנו גם שמשה נתן נעליים חדשות וחזקות לבני ישראל שיצאו‬
‫ממצרים‪ .‬ככה הם יכלו ללכת במדבר‪ ,‬שהיו בו נחשים ואבנים‪ .‬הנעליים‬
‫האלה נשארו חדשות ארבעים שנה‪.‬‬
‫אבא אומר גם שמאז שעזבנו את ישראל אנחנו נודדים מארץ לארץ‬
‫ומחכים לגאולה‪ .‬ובגלל זה‪ ,‬כשיגיע חג הגאולה אבא רוצה שיהיו לנו‬
‫נעליים חזקות וטובות‪.‬‬

New Shoes for Pesach
Father didn’t used to buy us new clothes for the holiday. He
used to say: the Sabbath and the holiday renew man; everyone
who looks dirty and full of dust on weekdays – becomes
beautiful and clean.
He told us about a poor smart Rabbi that stayed as a guest in a
big city. They invited him to give a sermon at the synagogue on
Sabbath, but he arrived [dressed] in dirty old clothes. When they
asked him why he didn’t change [lit. exchange] his clothes in
honor of the Sabbath, he replied: “the Sabbath changes
everything. The soul grows, and the garment becomes nicer”.
And indeed, when he spoke, he suddenly looked nice, tall and
[as] wearing glorious clothes.
But even though father didn’t used to buy us clothes for the
holiday, he would always buy us new shoes for Pesach. Strong
good shoes. And why did he buy shoes and not clothes? Because
Pesach is the holiday of redemption. And if the messiah would
come and lead us to the chosen land, we should have strong
shoes. That way we would be able to walk in the desert and not
fall.
Father also told us that Moshe gave the People of Israel new
strong shoes when they exited Egypt. That way they were able
to walk in the desert, which had snakes and rocks in it. Those
shoes stayed new for forty years.
Father also says that ever since we left Israel, we have been
wandering from land to land, waiting for the redemption.
Therefore, when the holiday of redemption will arrive, father
wants us to have good strong shoes.

‫בליל הסדר ישבו בבית של סבא מוטל'ה כל הבנים והנכדים‪ .‬סבא קרא‬
‫את ההגדה וכולנו שרנו אחריו‪ .‬סבא היה מסביר לנו את ההגדה‪ ,‬וכולנו‬
‫הקשבנו לו‪ .‬שתינו ארבע כוסות יין‪ ,‬אכלנו מצות‪ ,‬מרור‪ ,‬כרפס וביצים‬
‫במי מלח‪ .‬אחרי האוכל היינו פותחים את הדלת‪ ,‬ואליהו הנביא היה נכנס‪.‬‬
‫סבא מוטל'ה היה רואה אותו‪ .‬אנחנו לא ראינו אותו‪ ,‬אבל הרגשנו‪.‬‬
‫סבא היה מושיב אותו בראש השולחן ומגיש לו את "כוס אליהו" שמזגנו‬
‫בשבילו‪ .‬איך אנחנו יודעים שאליהו הנביא יבוא לפני פסח? כי כתוב‪ ,‬שה'‬
‫ישלח את אליהו הנביא לפני יום הגאולה‪ .‬והרי חג הפסח הוא חג‬
‫הגאולה‪ ,‬שבו נגאלו בני ישראל ממצרים‪.‬‬
‫למה אליהו יבוא? כדי לאחד את כולם באהבת ה'‪ ,‬באהבת התורה‬
‫ובאהבת ישראל‪.‬‬
‫כשהגיע ליל הסדר כבר גדלתי קצת‪ .‬כשהיה צריך לפתוח את הדלת‬
‫לאליהו הנביא – רצתי לדלת ופתחתי אותה לרווחה‪ .‬אבל לא היה שם אף‬
‫אחד‪.‬‬
‫רצתי אל אבא ואמרתי לו בצער‪" :‬אבא‪ ,‬אליהו לא בא"‪.‬‬
‫"בני היקר‪ ,‬הוא היה שם ולא ראית אותו‪ ,‬הוא נכנס‪ .‬אני אומר לך שהוא‬
‫כאן"‪.‬‬
‫"אבל אני לא רואה‪ ,‬אבא‪ .‬אתה רואה?"‬
‫"כן‪ ,‬אני רואה אותו"‪.‬‬
‫"איפה הוא‪ ,‬אבא‪ ,‬איפה"? צעקתי‪.‬‬
‫"בלבי‪ ,‬בלבך‪ ,‬בלב כולנו"‪.‬‬

He is in Your Heart, My Son
On Seder night all the sons and grandchildren sat at grandpa Motale’s
house. Grandpa read us the Haggadah and we all sang after him. Grandpa
used to explain the Haggadah for us, and we all listened to him. We drank
four glasses of wine, ate Matzot, bitter herb, celery and eggs in brine.
After the meal we used to open the door, and prophet Eliyahu would
come in. Grandpa Motale would see him. We didn’t see him, but we felt
[him].
Grandpa used to sit him at the head of the table and serve him “Eliyahu’s
glass”, which we poured for him. How did we know that prophet Eliyahu
would come before Pesach? Because it is written that God will send
prophet Eliyahu before redemption day. And indeed, Pesach is the
holiday of redemption, in which the People of Israel were redeemed from
Egypt.
Why will Eliyahu come? In order to unite everyone in love for God, love
for the Torah and love for Israel.
When Seder night arrived, I’ve already grown up a bit. When one should
have opened the door for prophet Eliyahu – I [was the one that] ran to the
door and opened it widely. But nobody was there.
I ran to father and told him with sorrow: “father, Eliyahu didn’t come”.
“My dear son, he was there and you didn’t see him, he came in. I’m
telling you he is here”.
“But I don’t see [him], father. Do you?”
“Yes, I see him”.
“Where is he, father, where?” I shouted.
“In my heart, in your heart, in the heart of all of us”.
“In the heart?” I asked, “do you see him in my heart?”
“Yes”, said father and kissed my forehead, “I see him. Bless you, my son,
for prophet Eliyahu is in your heart”.

Assignment: Who Knows One?

Instructions for the teacher:
 Divide the class into groups of 13 and photocopy the
(following) page, "Who Knows One?", so that each group
will have a copy.
 Cut out the cards (each13 separately). Each card is an
element from the song "Who Knows One?"
 Distribute the cards to each group (such that each student
has a card).
 Each group has to line up according to the right order of
the elements in the song (for example, the student that has
the card of "‫ "לוחות הברית‬has to stand before the student
who has the card of "‫)"אמהות‬.
 First group that lines up in the right order wins.
 Note: if there is a group with less than 13 students, they
should just line up according to the [non-complete] cards
that they have.
