On World Mission Sunday, the Church reminds
us that we are all missionaries. The “sending forth” is
an essential part of the life of the Church, and therefore,
of the life of all Catholics. “Go into the whole world
and proclaim the gospel to every creature (Mk 16,15)”.
That is the command of Jesus to his disciples:
Go into the whole world and proclaim the good news of
salvation. God loves us, God wishes our well-being.
God is the Father who takes care of all and each one of
His children. This is the task of many men and women,
religious and laic who, today, are scattered throughout
the whole world. A task in many instances difficult and
hard, but which they carry out with a selflessness which
merits the recognition of all of us.
Our mission is the same, but under different circumstances. We are called to spread the same message
in the place where we live or work, among relatives and
friends, among those we know and those unknown to us.
Through our daily tasks let us make known to the world
which surrounds us of that God, our Father and Friend.
Let us teach how to trust Him. In that nearness to God
our Savior, we will find meaning to that we do every
day.

En el Domingo Mundial de las Misiones la Iglesia nos recuerda que todos somos misioneros. La
“misión”, el envío, es parte esencial de la vida de la
Iglesia y, por tanto, de cada uno de los católicos. “Id
por todo el mundo y proclamad la buena noticia a todas
las gentes (Mc 16,15)”.
Ese es el mandato de Jesús a sus discípulos: Id
por todo el mundo proclamando la buena noticia de la
salvación. Dios nos ama, Dios quiere nuestro bien.
Dios es Padre que cuida de todos y cada uno de sus hijos. Esta es la labor de tantos hombres y mujeres, religiosos y laicos que hoy están esparcidos por el mundo
estero. Trabajo en muchas ocasiones difícil y duro pero
que llevan a cabo con una entrega digna de ser reconocida por todos nosotros.
Nuestra misión es la misma pero en circunstancias distintas. Estamos llamados a llevar ese mismo
mensaje desde el lugar donde vivimos o trabajamos, a
familiares y a amigos, a conocidos y desconocidos.
Desde nuestras obras de cada día demos a conocer al
mundo que nos rodea a ese Dios, Padre y Amigo. Enseñemos a tener confianza en El. Desde esa cercanía al
Dios que nos salva encontraremos sentido a lo que cada
día hacemos.

World Mission Sunday, organized by the Society of the Propagation of the Faith, is a day set aside for
Catholics worldwide to recommit themselves to the Church’s missionary activity through prayer and sacrifice.
It is celebrated on the next to last Sunday in October.
We, at Sts. Peter and Paul School, take very seriously the fact that our Church is a missionary Church. Thus,
we have established a Mission Club named after Blessed Charles de Foucauld who was beatified in 2005. We
try to inspire in our students a conscience for the less fortunate among our midst.
We want to thank Mrs. Madeline Bustillo and Mrs. Cindy Perez for their efforts in
promoting the spirit of our Missionary Church.

Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time
EVERYTHING BELONGS TO GOD
The first reading from the prophet Isaiah concerns the Persian King Cyrus, called
the Lord's "anointed." Cyrus deserves this title because he ended the Babylonian
captivity of the Jews. However, Isaiah reminds us that it was God who gave Cyrus his power. He may be a great king, but "I am the LORD and there is no other," says God (Isaiah 45:5).
Today's Gospel is also concerned with worldly power. In the passage from Matthew, the Pharisees try to trick Jesus into speaking against the emperor. His famous answer is the perfect reply.
Like the kings of old, Caesar can be given the respect due his position, but everything belongs to God.
In the second reading, Paul gives thanks for all who are faithful to Jesus Christ and his gospel. He, too, reminds us that our call and the power to be faithful come from God.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
When the fathers of the Second Vatican Council met to discuss the sacrament of
penance, they were required to draw up a new rite, including several forms. The
hot button for debate was so-called "general absolution," by which a penitent
could be absolved of sin without confessing to a priest. This was a difficult debate, compounded by widely varying traditions in both East and West. Some were
surprised to learn that the Holy See had already given permission, during the First
and Second World Wars, for this form. In 1944 the Vatican issued a decree saying
this form was valid under extreme conditions, which bishops in mission lands and
Latin America took as a kind of "blanket permission."
Thus, the fathers of the Council were alarmed to find this practice fairly widespread, not only in war, but in peaceful places with huge numbers of faithful and
few priests. Although they eventually produced a ritual with three different forms,
the forms are not considered equal, and the enriched and revised individual form
is preferred. The enrichments include a welcome of the penitent, a sign of the
cross with an encouragement to trust in God's compassion, new texts rich in the
Word of God, praise for God's mercy, and a dismissal.

Vigésimo Noveno Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
TODO PERTENECE A DIOS
La primera lectura del profeta Isaías tiene que ver con el rey persa Ciro, al que Dios llama "elegido". Ciro
merece este título ya que acabó con la cautividad de los judíos en Babilonia. No obstante, Jesús nos recuerda
que fue Dios quien dio a Ciro su poder. Quizás sea un gran rey pero, "Yo soy el Señor, y no hay otro igual",
Dios dice (Isaías 45:5).
El Evangelio de hoy también está relacionado con el poder mundano. En el pasaje de Mateo vemos como los
fariseos intentan con artimañas que Jesús hable mal del emperador. Su conocida respuesta es la perfecta réplica. Al igual que los reyes de la antigüedad, el César debe ser respetado dada su posición pero todo pertenece a
Dios.
En la segunda lectura, Pablo da las gracias por todos los que son fieles a Jesucristo y su Evangelio. También él
nos recuerda que nuestra llamada y el poder de ser fieles provienen de Dios.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
En 2006, en la plaza de Taos se erigió una estatua de bronce que conmemora al "cura de Taos", Antonio José Martínez, un sacerdote recordado como controversial ante varios gobiernos por defender a su pueblo.
Él fue sacerdote en Taos, Nuevo México cuando era territorio español,
luego mexicano y finalmente cuando pasa a manos de EE. UU. Durante la
época española y mexicana Antonio estableció escuelas para niños y niñas y fundó un seminario para preparar un clero nativo. En 1830 empezó
a imprimir libros y estableció el primer periódico Nuevo Mexicano. De
esta manera estableció Taos como un centro de educación.
En 1851 llegaron los representantes del gobierno estadounidense con la
intención de "americanizar" a los nuevos mexicanos prohibiéndoles sus
tradiciones declarando que eran ignorantes y supersticiosas.
Antonio José contradijo este movimiento convirtiendo su seminario en
una escuela de leyes. Decía que el gobierno de EE. UU es un burro que
debe ser montado por abogados. Muchos se opusieron a su obra pero él
continuó luchando por su pueblo hasta su muerte en 1867. Su tumba lo
declara: "La honra de su país".
