BUILDING OUR NEW CHURCH
Each day we can see much progress in the building of our new
Church. Its wonderful to see the roof being installed and the walls
being completed. During the summer much more progress will be
seen. The Church is scheduled to be completed in October. Cardinal Mahony, Archbishop of Los Angeles, has reserved Saturday
morning, November 19th for the dedication of the Church. Much
work remains to be done in planning and preparations for the completion of the Church. The Church Design Committee is meeting
regularly to complete the interior design of the Church. The Parish
Building Committee continues to meet monthly to oversee and guide
the building project. A major question about a Parish Hall remains
to be settled. Officials in the Archdiocese are discussing this issue.
Major questions are centered on the cost of the entire project and the
ability of the parish to repay the construction loan. The parish must
pay for the new buildings and improvements, either now or in years
to come with much added interest expense. Your pledge or gift now
to the Capital Campaign, “A Time to Build” is all important. See
below for more information on making a pledge or gift.
The original budget of $11 million was planned to cover the cost of
the new Church, the new parking lot and ground improvements and
new Parish Hall. However, because of a 30% increase in building
materials and added expense from all the land improvements required by the City of Palmdale (costing over $2 million), we estimate that only $1.3 million will be available in our construction
budget for a Parish Hall when the new Church is completed. The
necessary repairs (for new electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, rest
rooms, a small kitchen, etc.) needed to turn the present Church into a
Hall are estimated to cost about $1.3 to $1.5 million. A new Hall
could be built for $2.5 million. An additional $1.3 million (or more)
would have to be borrowed from the Archdiocese for a new Hall.
Officials of the Archdiocese are now studying these estimates and
doing other studies before making a final decision. We expect that a
final decision on a new Parish Hall or on retrofitting the present
Church into a Hall will be made in mid-July. Your comments and
suggestions are welcome. Please contact our Pastor, Monsignor
Steve, at the Parish Office.
What is important now is that each parishioner and family make a
three year pledge or gift to our Capital Campaign, “A Time to
Build”. We ask you to pray and decide on a three year pledge (a
pledge of $3,000 would cost $2.50 per day, $75 a month). A down
payment is not necessary. Now is “A Time to Build”. It is happening now! Your generous sacrifice in a three year pledge or gift is
needed now! All gifts are fully tax deductible for the tax year in
which your gift is made. Together we can build our Church and
community.

Cada día podemos ver nuevos I grandes progresos en la construcción de nuestra nueva Iglesia. Es maravillosos ver que el techo está siendo ya instalado y
las paredes se han completado. Durante el verano se ha avanzado bastante. La
Iglesia sera terminada en su totalidad en octubre. El Cardenal Mahony, Rzobispo de Los Angeles, ha reservado la mañana del sábado 19 de noviembre
para la Didicación de la Iglesia. Aún queda mucho trabajo qué hacer en el
planeamiento y preparativos para la terminación de la nueva Iglesia. El
Comité de diseño se está reuniendo regularmente para estudiar y completer el
diseño interior de la Iglesia. El Comité de construcción se reúne mensualmente para revisar y guiar el proyecto de construcción. Se está deliberando
acerca del Salón Parroquial. Las mayors deliberaciones se centran en el costo
del proyecto entero entero y la habilidad de la Parroquia para pagar el
préstamo de construcción. La Parroquia tiene qué pagar por los nuevos edificios y reparaciones, ahora o en los años siguientes con un considerable aumento en el costo del interés. Su promesa o regalo a la Campaña Capital, “ Es
Tiempo de Construir” es muy importante. Abajo puede encontrar información
de cómo hacer su promesa o regalo. por lo cual sería necesario pedir prestados a la Arquidiócesis $ 1.3 millones o
más, para la construcción del mismo. Oficiales de la Arquidiócesis están
ahora estudiando estos presupuestos y hacienda otros estudios antes de tomar
una decisión final.Esperamos una decision sobre construir el Salón nuevo o
reparar y transformar la presente Iglesia en Salón Parroquial a mediados de
Julio. Aceptamos sus comentarios o sugerencias. Por favor comuníquese con

What is a volunteer? The answer seems to be that a volunteer is simply “someone who cares”. Volunteers care about others, and they care
about themselves. In the Church, we often hear that the volunteer cares
about the Parish, the Youth Group, The Religious Education Programin short, the volunteer cares about the community. When the volunteers say they care about others, at the same time they may be fulfilling
their own needs to be helpful, to be useful. Volunteers, like all people,
like to be helpful, to learn, to deepen their spiritual side, to make
friends. We all do these things because we care about ourselves and
our own continuing growth and development.

sexual abuse of minors by priests, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles has provided prosecutors with the names of victims and every
accused priest, the time periods of alleged abuse, records of the
priest’s assignments and the priest’s current status and location? In 2004, an independent audit measuring the Archdiocese’s
compliance with the U.S. Bishops’ “Charter for the Protection of
Children and Young People,” determined that the Archdiocese
“complies with all applicable civil laws with respect to the reporting
of allegations of sexual abuse of minors to civil authorities,” and
that, “the Archdiocese has established effective liaison with civil
authorities, ensuring that an open dialogue regarding sexual
abuse allegations will occur.”
