It is very important that we communicate with parents at this Ɵme of year to make sure their children are doing well. Our Science Fair is coming up in a few weeks. Each class does a project or two together about some science concept. The older students in 4th and 5th do individual projects and these are displayed in the hallway for the parents to see. The students explain their projects to anyone who has quesƟons. There is a wriƩen piece to their project also. Anyone may come to the Science Fair, so please stop in on November 19th at 6:30 in the evening at the school. You will be amazed at the projects. Estudiantes para la Confirmacion Sabia usted esto… Dicen y no hacen... ¡Malditos hipócritas! A veces las palabras son reveladoras. En la antigüedad, "hipócrita" designaba tanto al adivino como al actor, es decir, al que dice palabras que no son de su propia cosecha. Pero, bajo la influencia del arameo, no tardó en designar, en la Biblia, al hombre que desempeña un papel sin comprometerse. ¿Ocurrirá esto siempre entre los maestros religiosos? Ponen fardos sobre los hombros de las personas, pero ellos no quieren mover un dedo... En este sentido, Jesús es todo lo contrario del "hipócrita". Todo lo que dice es de su propia cosecha, y lo hace centro de su propia vida. Su infinita grandeza se revela en el servicio que asume, hasta el final, en favor de los hombres. De hecho, es difícil, si no imposible, administrar una religión. Tarde o temprano, se convierte en un sistema legal o doctrinal en el que los responsables deben adornarse con títulos para imponer a la vez su persona y el sistema. Pero ¿existe un sistema que consiga salvar al hombre sin tener que cuestionar constantemente su propia verdad? Nosotros sólo tenemos un maestro, un único Rabino, Dios y su Hijo JC. La Iglesia no administra un sistema revelado; vive de la presencia siempre nueva del Espíritu. ¿Qué harían en ella señores y maestros? Incluso el título de Padre es inadecuado, desde el momento en que se trata de la fe, pues ante Dios todos son hermanos y servidores unos de otros, todos sumisos a la Palabra y a los impulsos del Espíritu. Nadie tiene un papel que representar, a no ser el de su propia vida, en humilde testimonio para los hermanos. Nadie es adivino, pues nadie puede reivindicar el monopolio de la inspiración profética. Cada uno, desde su sitio, es servidor, y el lugar más importante es el que exige el servicio mayor. En la Iglesia debe haber siempre una jerarquía, y la mejor manera de potenciarla no es la adulación hacia los jerarcas, sino la crítica fraterna, por dura que pueda parecer a los timoratos. En la comunidad cristiana todos somos hermanos con un solo Padre y un solo Señor. Por medio de Cristo damos gracias al Padre en la reunión eucarística. Tras cinco domingos consecutivos de confrontación con las dos principales corrientes religiosas judías, Mateo nos presenta hoy a Jesús atacando frontalmente a la más arraigada y popular de esas corrientes, la farisea. Para ello ha convocado al auditorio más amplio posible: a la muchedumbre y a los discípulos. Quiere resaltar así la importancia del ataque. Este comienza con la constatación de una situación: la ocupación de la cátedra-de-Moisés por letrados y fariseos. La cátedra de Moisés no es ninguna expresión figurada, sino el nombre del mueble desde donde se explicaba la escritura en la sinagoga. La cátedra de Moisés es el lugar autorizado y autoritativo de información y de formación. El ataque es muy simple: desfase entre enseñanza y actuación. Haced lo que os digan, pero no hagáis lo que ellos hacen. Tres situaciones ponen de manifiesto ese desfase: no hacer lo que se dice; imponer cargas sin ayudar a llevarlas; actuar para la galería. Esta tercera situación es, a su vez, explicada con unos ejemplos, cuatro en concreto: uso ostentoso de filacterias y flecos; presencia en lugares preferentes; afán de notoriedad; "titulitis". Las filacterias eran trozo de piel o pergamino con textos de la Escritura, que se colocaban en la frente y en los brazos durante la oración. En la actualidad son una especie de chales de los que cuelgan unas tiras con textos escritos. Los flecos o franjas del manto se remontan a Núm. 15, 38-41 e iban cosidos con hilo violeta. Su finalidad era la de servir de recordatorio de los mandamientos del Señor. El cuarto de los ejemplos, al que he denominado "titulitis", da pie a Mateo para desarrollar por contraposición el talante que debe reinar en el interior de la comunidad cristiana: fraternidad, servicio a los demás y sencillez. -Comentario. En la dinámica que Mateo ha imprimido a su evangelio el texto de hoy se veía venir. Pero una vez más debemos guardarnos de ver en él una finalidad exclusivamente de reproducción de un conflicto de Jesús con sus contemporáneos religiosos. Los conflictos de Jesús están reproducidos primordialmente por su valor de ejemplaridad para el futuro. Las situaciones y casos denunciados son situaciones y casos de hoy, dentro de los ambientes religiosos, y en particular, los ambientes doctos, pues a éstos es a los que el texto ataca. También hoy, por ejemplo, existe un gusto especial, aunque inconfesado, en ser llamado "doctor". De labios de sabios doctores eclesiásticos universitarios he escuchado personalmente el siguiente consejo: "lo importante es entrar". ¡Alguno de estos sabios es en la actualidad...! Es muy fácil ser como los letrados y fariseos contemporáneos de Jesús. Lo es hasta tal punto que casi resulta inevitable. De ahí la dificultad de llevar a la práctica el talante cristiano propugnado en la última parte del texto. Cada uno de los términos de la trilogía cristiana propuesta aclara y depura el sentido del anterior. La fraternidad sólo es tal en la medida en que sea servicio y entrega; el servicio a su vez, sólo es auténtico en la medida en que se haga con espontánea sencillez. En la coyuntura actual el magisterio verbal no tiene nada que decir si no parte de la fraternidad del maestro a través de un arrimar el hombro con sencillez. El texto de hoy remite inevitablemente a /Mt/11/25-30. En contraste con los maestros, encontramos en él el tipo de maestro y de guía que es Jesús. "Venid a mí todos los que estáis cansados y agobiados. Cargad con mi yugo y aprended de mí, que soy sencillo y humilde. Mi yugo es llevadero y mi carga ligera". A diferencia de los expertos, Jesús es un guía que camina por delante con el yugo que impone. El experto instrumentaliza el saber desde un estar situado; Jesús adopta una posición vital, integradora de teoría y práctica. A. BENITO DABAR 1990/54 November 2, 2014 The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls' Day) LOOKING TO THE LAST DAY Today the Church remembers all who have walked the way of Christ and passed from this life. The readings all look to the last day, when we shall all rise from the dead and be reunited. The prophet Daniel announces words of warning and welfare. He cautions us against the judgment to come, but he also comforts us and assures us that all who live a life of virtue and justice will find life eternal. The reading from Romans reminds us that, because of Christ's passion, death, and resurrection and our entrance into that paschal mystery through baptism, we now share in the new life won by Christ. This recognition has repercussions: we need to live righteously now, that we might rise to life forever with Christ on the last day. One of the most important days of the year for many, they join All Saints and All Souls together, visiting the graves of babies and children on All Saints, since they are santitos (little saints) or angelitos (little angels). Flowers, their favorite toys, favorite music, and so on, are taken to them. The following day, people spend time--some of them all day--at the cemetery with their loved ones who have died. From the ancient customs of the Indians the families pray, talk with them, and take them their favorite food. It is a most solemn but joyful day. It is a day to celebrate Christ's victory over death: "Death, where is your sting?" There is a mocking of death as people make skeletons, candy that represents death, and Pan de los Muertos (bread of the dead) and consume them in a kind of role reversal. One of the customs is to build an altarcito (little altar) where one places mementos and pictures of those who have died. There are also favorite foods, candles, statues or pictures of favorite saints, books, and Bibles. Some parishes have begun to build an altarcito where all parishioners can join in honoring the deceased. A remembrance book can be placed to write names in.
