Church, Concrete. We are two individual parishes and one mission church ministered to by on Pastor, Fr. Martin Bourke, with the
assistance of Parochial Vicar, Fr. Emilio Gonzalez. In addition to sharing clergy, the churches share Pastoral Assistant for Finance,
Jamie Cline ([email protected] or 360-391-7003). Fr. Martin and Jamie have their offices at the Immaculate Conception Parish
Center located at 215 N. 15th St. in Mount Vernon, Fr. Emilio’s office is at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish located at 719 Ferry St.,
Sedro-Woolley.

Like the sensible bridesmaids in today’s parable, good stewards make sure that they, and whatever gifts
are theirs to share, are ready to serve when the Master calls.

Pope Paul VI
One of our teachers used to use the phrase, “there is method in your madness.” I think it is a quote from the play Hamlet.
Well in Rome from October 5th to 19th this year, there was a Synod on the Family. At the end of the Synod a special ceremony
was scheduled; the Beatification of Pope Paul VI.
It is with good reason because he had warned that a contraceptive culture would lead to a lowering of moral standards and the imposition by the state of contraception on everyone. Please note the pressure now to have contraception paid for by Catholic ent ities.
The one miracle associated with Pope Paul VI is the case of a pregnant woman whose fetus did not have fluid in the amniotic sac.
Doctors suggested abortion to avoid a deformed baby. A nun, according to the story, placed a picture of Pope Paul VI and a little
piece of one of his vestments on the woman’s stomach. Surprise! The baby was born in perfect health.
He made nine trips overseas, one of which was to address the United Nations. He was a global thinker and some of the countries visited were less than household names, Uganda, Iran, Pakistan, Bermuda, Turkey and the Philippines.
His biggest challenge was to implement the material from Vatican II. He faced a daunting task of keeping the middle ground between the liberal side who wanted to race forward and the conservatives who wished to throw out Vatican II. He knew that the
church, to be relevant, had to deal with the issues of our time. Why else did he travel? Why did he write his encyclical Populorum
Progressio (the progression of people) in 1967.
August 6, 1978, on the feast of the Transfiguration he died. He began to bring the Papacy to the world. Jesus, too, took the Gospel to
the highways and the byways.

The Immaculate Conception Capital Campaign Committee in
cooperation with Bertelsen Winery is hosting a wine tasting event
on Sunday, November 16, from 2-5 p.m. at the St. Joseph Center
in Mount Vernon. Tickets are $15 and available at the parish

several of our valley wineries and help raise funds for our new

Tri-Parish Food Bank
The Holidays are nearly here. The Tri-Parish Food
Bank would like to provide extra food for Holiday
meals on Thanksgiving and Christmas. A $25.00 donation will provide enough money for a meal for one
family. We averaged serving over 250 families a week
in July and August so the need is great. Thanks for
sharing your financial blessings with the hungry in the
valley.
Thanksgiving Collection for the Needy
Your gifts this Thanksgiving will allow the parish offices to offer financial assistance to the needy in the
community in the form of gas vouchers (at ICC), food
cards, diapers (at IHM) and utility assistance. This
Outreach ministry is funded by three collections each
year on Thanksgiving, Ash Wednesday and Holy
Thursday. The Finance Councils do not budget any
funds for this ministry. Your gifts on these special
days are gratefully accepted and rationed until the

I would like to thank all those parishioners who helped with this year’s Remembrance Service, November 2 nd.
Harry Weldon, our music/choir director chose a wonderful new piece called Saints of God. He spent hours incorporating the first names of the deceased into the verses of this hymn. The choir dedicated evenings learning this and
other songs used for this years’ service. A little over 100 family members attended this year’s candle lighting.
Thanks, too, to the servers, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and the lectors and Salesian women who set up the
altar and sang in the choir, and my helpers who helped with the mailing and name plaques.

The New Church: The walls on both sides of the main church (Nave) are up
now and work continues on the tower and the Narthex area rooms. Next will come
the membrane roof installation over the towers and Tyvek (weatherproofing) over
the sheathing. The laminated ceiling beams have arrived and will be installed when
the walls are completed. We need to keep an eye on the site, since we have already
lost copper wire over a past weekend and another intrusion occurred the next weekend. Permanent power is scheduled for early December and the natural gas installation should occur this month.
Last Sunday afternoon we celebrated our Remembrance of the Dead night prayer.

El Papa Pablo VI
Algunos de nuestros profesores utilizan frecuentemente la frase "dentro del desorden esta el orden."
Creo que es una cita de la obra Hamlet.
Bien, desde el 5 de octubre al 19 de este año 2014, se celebro un Sínodo sobre la Familia en Roma. Al final del Sínodo una ceremonia
especial estaba programada; la beatificación del Papa Pablo VI.
Es por una buena razón, ya que El había advertido que una cultura de anticonceptivos llevaría a una reducción de las normas morales y a
la imposición por parte del Estado de la anticoncepción en todo el mundo.
Tenga en cuenta que a las entidades católicas ahora se les ha presionado para pagar la anticoncepción, en sus seguros de salud.
El milagro asociado al Papa Pablo VI es el caso de una mujer embarazada cuyo feto no tenía líquido en el saco amniótico. Los médicos le
sugirieron aborto para evitar un bebé deforme. Una monja, de acuerdo con la historia, colocó una imagen del Papa Pablo VI y un pequeño
pedazo de uno de sus vestiduras en el estómago de la mujer. Sorpresa el bebé nació en perfecto estado de salud.
Hizo 9 viajes al extranjero, uno de los cuales era para hacer frente a las Naciones Unidas. Él era un pensador global y algunos de los países visitados fueron de los menos conocidos, Uganda, Irán, Pakistán, Bermudas, Turquía y Filipinas.

Gracias, e aquí una pequeña reflexión:
Dar Gracias
Una madre solía orar en las noches con una hija pequeña, de unos seis años, al acostarla.
Una noche la madre le dijo: – Hoy vamos a pedir a Dios un poco más para que sane a la tía
Marta.
Oraron por la tía Marta, cada noche, durante un par de semanas. Después, la madre no dijo
nada y dejaron de pedir. A la tercera o cuarta noche sin hacerlo, la niña preguntó: - Mamá,
¿por qué no oramos por la tía Marta?. – Es que Diosito ya la puso buena, respondió la madre.
.– Y si la puso buena, -replicó la niña- ¿no deberíamos orar para darle las gracias?.
.Somos más dados a pedir que a agradecer. Lo de aquellos diez leprosos curados y de los que solo uno vuelve a dar
las gracias a Jesús, se repite en nuestra vida a diario.
.De cada diez veces que pedimos, quizás, no damos gracias ni una. La gratitud del que pide abre la mano del que
da: el agradecimiento facilita la generosidad. ¡Y tenemos tanto que agradecer a Dios!.

Noticias de la Iglesia Inmaculada Concepción
Nueva iglesia: El suelo para el área del coro se ha instalado y se continúa trabajando en la
torre y las habitaciones de la zona Narthex. A continuación vendrá la instalación del techo de
membrana sobre las torres y la impermeabilización sobre el revestimiento. Las paredes de la iglesia principal se están construyendo ahora y empezaran a subir la última semana de octubre. Varios redactores adicionales se han añadido esta semana pasada que aceleraran este proceso.

el formulario o encontrar una forma en los bastidores en ambas entradas de la iglesia
Jardinería e irrigación: Los Caballeros de Colón le darán cobertura a nuestro exceso de mezcla de tierra con hojas de
plástico para la protección durante el invierno. Seguimos a la espera de recibir las fichas de varias de las compañías locales de
remoción de árboles los cuales serán plantados a lo largo de la barda, y el área abierta del Norte de la nueva iglesia se hydroseembrara cuando el tiempo lo permita. Estaremos usando astillas de madera para cubrir terreno abierto a lo largo de la valla. El
área de siembra en la esquina sudeste de la página debe tener una pendiente hacia el desagüe. Nosotros le haremos saber
cuando necesitamos personas para ayudar con la plantación de árboles y otras necesidades de jardinería.
Reuniones: El comité de creación se reunió el lunes pasado y discutieron sobre las bancas y sillas y di seños alternativos para el ambón y el altar. El comité de Campaña de Capital se reunió el pasado miércoles y discutió el próximo evento de vino
y degustación de bebidas del domingo, 16 de noviembre de 2 al 5 de la tarde en el centro de San José y un poco acerca de nuestro evento de recaudación de fondos programada para el 14 de febrero - el sábado antes de la Cuaresma . El Comité de Creación se enfrentará el lunes 3 de noviembre a las 7 pm en la rectoría para discutir el aspecto y características de las bancas y diseños alternativos para el ambón y el altar. Como siempre, todas las reuniones de las comisiones están abiertas a todos los miembros de la parroquia y siempre están buscando nuevas ideas.

Fiesta de San Carlos Borromeo, Cena y
Subasta Silenciosa.

encuentra organizando las
festividades Guadalupanas
que se llevaran acabo del 3
al 11 de diciembre.
Solicitamos personas que
deseen patrocinar el rosario
durante la novena, que iniciará el 3 de
diciembre a las 7.00 pm, que consiste redirigir el rezo del Santo Rosario. No tendremos convivio durante la novena.
Para el día 11 de diciembre tendremos
un convivio, por lo tanto, las personas
que deseen traer comida, pueden traer
una de las siguientes: Tamales, Pozole,
Tostadas, chocolate, Pan y desechables.
Uno de nuestros voluntarios estará anotando después de la Misa del domingo. Es
importante anotarse para que nosotros
puédanos saber con lo que contamos.

celebración de San Carlos con una Cena y
Subasta Silenciosa en la noche del viernes, 7
de noviembre. La velada incluirá una deliciosa
cena Mexicana y muchos artículos maravillosos
de la subasta. El padre Armando Guzmán estará con nosotros proporcionando entretenimiento musical. Se promete ser una gran noche de
compañerismo y diversión. Los fondos recau-
dados serán utilizados para mantener y mejorar nuestras instalaciones de la iglesia San
Carlos. Incluyendo: la mejora del sistema de
sonido. Resellar las líneas del estacionamiento,
