THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE TODAY
A Word from Fr. Rocks…
A
pproximately two years before I entered the seminary, Pope St. John Paul II issued the Apostolic Exhortation Patores dabo vobis (I will give you shepherds). The letter received its name from Jeremiah 3:15,
which reads: "I will give them shepherds after my own heart." Here God is promising his people shepherds,
that is religious leaders, who would shepherd the people with a divine love; leading people to live the covenant.
St. John Paul applies this passage to the Church, the People of God. A central theme of the letter is that of
the priest as alter Christus, another Christ; meaning to shepherd, teach, and sanctify in the person of Jesus.
This vocation is a call, a summons, from God, one to which a man responds to in love, making a total gift of
himself to the Church, following the example of Christ. The priest is therefore to have the heart of Christ,
leading people to live the new covenant established by our Lord.
Jesus tells us "the harvest is abundant but the laborers are few, so ask the master of the harvest to send out
laborers for the harvest" (Mt. 9:37-38). This not only means that we are to pray for vocations but that we are
all responsible for fostering vocations, including priestly vocations. This begins in the home. "The Christian
family, which is truly a 'domestic Church', has always offered and continues to offer favorable conditions for
the birth of vocations. Since the reality of the Christian family is endangered nowadays, much importance
should be given to pastoral work on behalf of the family, in order that the families themselves, generously
accepting the gift of human life, may be 'as it were, a first seminary' in which children can acquire from the
beginning an awareness of piety and prayer and love for the Church" (Patores dabo vobis, 41).
All vocations start in the home, including a vocation to the priesthood. Parents are to help foster these vocations by their example. The home should be a place where the faith is taught, practiced, lived. Religious art
and prayers should be more common in our homes than sport team logos and local gossip. The home needs
to be a place where the fundamental vocation of holiness, which comes from being a disciple of Christ Jesus, bears fruit; especially today, the fruit of marriage and priesthood.
Let us pray that we might be sent these laborers, these shepherds with the heart of Christ. St. Paul speaks of
such shepherds when he states God "gave some as apostles, others as prophets, others as evangelists, others
as pastors and teachers, to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,
until we all attain to the unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the extent
of the full stature of Christ" (Eph. 4:11-13). It is the priest with the heart of Christ who equips us, the holy
ones, for living our faith everyday in all we that do.
Let us encourage, through prayer, example, and invitation young men to respond generously to such a vocation.

THE DEDICATION OF THE LATERAN BASILICA
T
oday the liturgy celebrates the dedication of the Lateran Basilica, called “mother and head of all the churches of the city and
the world.” Today’s feast celebrates a mystery that is always relevant: God’s desire to build a spiritual temple in the world, a community that worships him in spirit and truth (cf. John 4:23-24). But
this observance also reminds us of the importance of the material
buildings in which the community gathers to celebrate the praises of
God. Every community therefore has the duty to take special care of
its own sacred buildings, which are a precious religious and historical patrimony. For this we call upon the intercession of Mary Most
Holy, that she helps us to become, like her, the “House of God,” living temple of his love.

BIENVENIDOS Y GRACIAS POR ESTAR AQUI!!
A

Our Commitment to Excellence involves Quality care giving.
Our Community is well planned, secure, and simple. Our
Sisters live at the site in separate quarters and are dedicated
to serving the elderly. Villa Raffaella is a different kind of
assisted care community because we believe in the
