Un Mensaje De Nuestro Pastor,
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR,
FATHER STEVE
PADRE STEVE
(Rev. Monsignor Stephen N. Downes, Pastor)
Humility is at the center of our Readings today. In the
First Reading we are encouraged to “conduct your affairs
with humility” and “humble yourself the more, the
greater you are, and you will find favor with God.” In
the Gospel Jesus tells us that “everyone who exalts himself will be
humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” Truth
is another word for humility. The Delphic oracle (“Know thyself”)
comes to mind – we must know ourselves as created and blessed by
God because everything we are and have comes from God. Awe
and respect, thanksgiving and appreciation for God are the result of
humility. At times we may feel weak, blinded, lame and crippled
but through the invitation of Jesus we are healed, forgiven, restored
to life and blessed in God’s love. May we also see each other as
brothers and sisters in God’s love!

Monday, September 3rd is Labor Day, a day to be thankful for
the ability and opportunity to work. We also remember all who
are unemployed. As is our custom on national holidays, there
will be only one Mass on Labor Day at 8:30 AM and after Mass
the parish offices and campus will be closed for the day.
You are invited to help clean the Church each Monday
(including Labor Day) from 12:00 to 3:00 PM. No registration,
no commitment – just come and help care for God’s House
Our Parish Luau Hawaiian Dinner Dance will take place on
Saturday, September 15th from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM at our parish school grounds. We encourage you to plan to attend this
great parish celebration. Tickets will be on sale in the vestibule
of our Church in Palmdale after Sunday Mass and also at the
Parish Office and School Office.
During the summer months many people leave on vacation and
our Sunday donations and contributions go down. Your faithful
and generous giving at Sunday Mass and in fulfilling your
pledge to our Capital Campaign, “A Time to Build”, is all important. Many thanks for your generous and faithful giving to
our parish. Your generosity supports all the worship, educational and service programs of our parish.
Let us work together to show respect for God’s House and to
keep the Church (and the rest rooms) clean. Please, no chewing
gum or drinks or food, no graffiti, no crayons, etc. One parent
should accompany any child who goes to the rest room. We
have two family rooms for
families with children who
are having a difficult time in
Church and we ask parents to
take your child to the family
room when the child is upset
or making a lot of noise. We
appreciate your cooperation
in all of these matters.
Scripture Readings for next
Sunday (the 23rd Sunday in
Ordinary Time) will be: Wisdom 9:13-18; Philemon 9-10,
12-17; Luke 14:25-33
(Rev, Monsignor Stephen N. Downes, Pastor)

Nuestra Cena- Baile Parroquial anual LUAU tendrá lugar
regalo a nuestra Parroquia.
No necesitan hacer

Tenemos
qué pagar todas nuestras deudas y recibos.
NOTES ON A NEW PARISH HALL
Preparations for the construction of the new Parish Hall, meeting rooms
and Parish Offices are now being completed. The land has been graded
and prepared for the foundations of the new buildings. City of Palmdale
building permits are now complete. We hope that the construction work
will be completed in March, 2008. The stained glass windows from the
Old Church are now in storage – many will be on display in the New
Hall. In September or October we hope to have a sale of items from the
Old Church (some doors, ceiling fans, lighting fixtures, etc).
The Archdiocese expects our parish to repay the loans for all the construction – of $13 million. Your faithful and generous fulfillment of
your pledge to the Capital Campaigns of 2003 and 2005 is all important.
This is your parish. The parish must pay its bills and meet its debts.
Your generous giving helps our parish grow and serve the Lord and all
people.

THE BAPTISM FONT
The Baptismal Font is very important in our Church. Through the waters of Baptism we receive new and eternal life in Jesus, our sins are
washed away, and we become members of the People of God, the
Church. We ask everyone to respect the Baptismal Font. Please do
not sit on the sides of the Font. Nor is it a place to throw coins. Parents: the Baptismal Font is not a play area for children. Please do not
allow the children to play around the Font or try to climb in (there is a
danger of a child falling in and being hurt). Parents; please do not
become angry with the Ushers when they ask you to protect your children and keep them away from playing at the Font. Our concern is for
the safety of your children. The Baptismal Font is there for the celebration of life in Jesus. We bless ourselves with holy water from the Font
to remind ourselves of the Blessings of our Baptism, especially of eternal life in Jesus.
Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time
No tiren monedas.
No

Felicity Landa took first place in our First Annual Talent Show this last
weekend! She sang “ Only Hope” by Mandy Moore and blew the Judges
and the crowd away! Taking the Runner– Up position was a trio composed of Danielle LaFrance, Amy Castillo, and Felicity Landa with their
version of “ Mama, I’m a big girl now” from the film Hairspray. They had
a wonderful dance routine and worked so well together, it was very entertaining! Great job to all of the performers! The acts consisted of a 10
yr. old singing Christian music as our opening act followed by our two
winners, a solo from Amy Castillo, a violinist by the name of Mateusz
Gwizdala who played one of his own composed pieces, a dance by
Vanessa Figueroa, another trio of young ladies: Elizabeth Zavala,
Lindsey Iniguez, and Emely Luna singing “Potential Break Up Song” by
Aly & AJ, and to wrap up the show the Band Systematic Chaos performed outside with two of our very own Christian LaFrance on drums
and Andrew Corsaro on bass! It was a great show! Thank you to all who
came out and joined us with all your support!

Did You Know? Teach kids to protect themselves at home
We consider our homes to be safe places for our children. But
being home alone can pose risks for children. Here are a few
tips to teach kids that will help keep them safe when you are not
with them at home: Never answer the door if alone. Do not invite anyone in the house without the permission of a parent or
babysitter. Don’t tell anyone on the phone that your parents are
not home. Instead tell them that your parents can’t come to the
phone and take a message. For more tips, please visit:
