ANOINTING OF THE SICK
The Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those only
who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the
faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age,
the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly
already arrived. (CCC 1514)
If a person is in need of Anointing of the Sick, please call the
parish office for a priest at 602-242-1300.
If the parish office is closed and there is an immediate danger
of death, please call the after-hours emergency number at
602-246-3534. The after-hours number may only be used for life
and death emergencies.

A Letter from Our
Cathedral Rector
Dear Parishioners,
A Few Good Men
More than thirteen years ago, I attended the Christ Renews His Parish retreat at St. Thomas the Apostle parish here in Phoenix. I was
relatively new to Arizona, and undergoing what I call my “reversion” to the Catholic faith.
As many of you know, I was a “Cafeteria Catholic” up until about the age of 30, coasting along in my faith, aware of what the Church taught
but not all that committed...practicing my faith out of habit more than love or gratitude. At that time I started realizing that, despite all the
success I had enjoyed in my career...something was missing. I would go to bed at night asking myself, “Is this all there is?” I was hungry,
but did not know what I hungered for. Despite good friends and a loving family, I was lonely and did not know whom I longed for. Around
this time, I had started taking “baby steps” to get more involved in my parish by serving as a lector and then as an RCIA sponsor. With each
venture into greater involvement, my faith grew, as did my desire to know more about the Lord and his Church.
During this time, someone invited me...or, I should say, encouraged me...to make a weekend retreat called “Christ Renews His Parish”. Now,
I’m a very private person who tends to be very guarded about letting people I don’t know get too close. I’m not into “touchy-feely” spirituality at all, and was afraid that this retreat was just another one of “those”. By God’s grace, I overcame my hesitation and signed up for the
retreat. I am so grateful that I did...and I’m glad I was wrong about my suspicions of the retreat.
Without revealing any specific details of the retreat, I will simply say that the Lord awakened my heart to his love and concern for
me...personally...and gave me a taste of his mercy. As a result of the retreat, I established friendships with other men who are serious about
fulfilling their duty as the spiritual leaders of their families. Seeing the courage of other Catholic men gave me the courage to say “yes” to my
personal Christian mission...the priesthood! Men need men to support them in their Christian journey and this retreat becomes such a rallying
point for men.
So, men of Ss. Simon & Jude...If, after hearing the announcements about this retreat at Mass, in the bulletin and elsewhere, you’ve thought,
“Hmmmm...Maybe that’s what I need. I want to feel closer to God, but don’t know how. I know God is calling me to do
more for him, but something’s holding me back. I know that something is missing in my life, but I just can’t seem to figure
out what. I make good money, have lots of “stuff”, but something’s still missing.”
Then, another voice creeps in and says, “Oh, that retreat is not for you. That’s for holy people. That’s for people who have it all
figured out, who are already close to God. You won’t fit in. Just stay home that weekend and watch football.”
Well, having been around the block (spiritually speaking), I can tell you who that second voice belongs to! The Devil does not want you to
take spiritual leadership of your family. He does not want you to grow closer to Christ. Because he knows that if you do, you will become the
powerful, Spirit-filled, fulfilled man that God created you to be, because a fulfilled, confident Christian man is a deadly adversary for the Devil.
And so you have a choice...
As of November 18, we have 15 women signed up for the Women’s retreat and only 5 men signed up for the Men’s retreat. Some of the 15
women are married, but their husbands have not registered for the Men’s retreat. We need a minimum of 20 men and 20 women for each
retreat. If we don’t get those numbers...we may have to cancel both retreats. But there’s so much more at stake here than “hitting numbers”.
Men of Ss. Simon & Jude...God is calling YOU. And YOU know who YOU are, because as you read this, your heart is stirring. Come to
“Christ Renews His Parish”. If you’re married, encourage your wife to go to the Women’s retreat. Share the experience together!
Your family needs you. Your parish needs you. And God needs you...to be the man in Christ that he created you to be.
A Few Good Men...to take a small step toward the happiness and holiness you are searching for.

for Mass on Thanksgiving Day at 9:00 a.m.
The Knights of Columbus will be taking orders after the
Masses on Dec. 6/7 and Dec. 13/14. The cost is $15 per
plant and the name of your loved one will be written on a
tag and placed on the poinsettia.
We will also celebrate the regularly scheduled
daily Mass at 6:15 a.m.
Only 100 poinsettias will be sold. Be sure to get yours!

Today as we celebrate Christ the King, we

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all the food
and turkeys donated to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul
for the Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Drive. Through
your generosity and love of the poor and needy, the
Society will be able to help families have a wonderful
Thanksgiving turkey dinner. Our Parish community did
indeed hear the call of Jesus saying: “...whatever you did
for one of the least brothers and sisters of mine, you did
for me.”
Just a little “heads up,” for our 5th Sunday collection
coming up on Nov. 30th. We know how close this
collection is to the Food Drive which we just had, but how
well we all know that poverty continues and Christians
respond with love. May the Lord shower each one of you
with his love, his mercy and his compassion.

Ayman Khair from Bethlehem is selling hand carved
olivewood religious wares… Nativity sets, rosaries,
statues, crucifixes, charms, etc. This craft is the major
source of income for the Christian families in the Holy
Land. His items are from more than 140 Christian
families in Bethlehem. Money from sales like this is their
only source of income, and helps Christian families stay in
the Holy Land.

Queridos feligreses,
Unos Pocos Hombres Buenos
Hace más de trece años, que asistí al retiro Cristo Renueva Su Parroquia en la parroquia Santo Tomás Apóstol de aquí en Phoenix. Yo era
relativamente nuevo en Arizona, y de someterse a lo que yo llamo mi "reversión" a la fe católica.
Como muchos de ustedes saben, yo era un "Católico de Cafetería" hasta la edad de 30, costeando en mi fe, consciente de lo que enseña la
Iglesia, pero no tan comprometido... practicando mi fe por costumbre más que por el amor o gratitud. En ese momento empecé a darme cuenta
de que, a pesar de todo el éxito que había disfrutado en mi carrera... faltaba algo. Me iba a la cama por la noche y me preguntaba, "¿Es esto
todo lo que hay?" Yo tenía hambre, pero no sabía de qué cosa tenía hambre. A pesar de los buenos amigos y una familia amorosa, me sentía
solo y no sabía por quién anhelaba. Alrededor de ese tiempo, yo había comenzado a tomar "pasos de bebé" a involucrarse más en mi parroquia,
al servir como un lector y luego como patrocinador de RICA. Con cada aventura con una mayor participación, mi fe creció, al igual que mi deseo
de conocer más acerca del Señor y su Iglesia.
Durante este tiempo, alguien me invitó... o, mejor dicho, me animó... para hacer un retiro de fin de semana llamado "Cristo Renueva Su
Parroquia". Ahora, yo soy una persona muy privada que tiende a ser muy cuidadoso sobre dejar que la gente que no conozco se acerque
demasiado. No soy de la espiritualidad "sensiblero" en absoluto, y tenía miedo de que este retiro fuera sólo otro de "esos". Por la gracia de Dios,
superé mis dudas y me inscribí para el retiro. Estoy muy agradecido de que lo hice ... y me alegro de que estaba equivocado acerca de mis
sospechas del retiro.
Sin revelar detalles específicos del retiro, me limitaré a decir que el Señor despertó mi corazón a su amor y preocupación por mí...
personalmente... y me dio un sabor de su misericordia. Como resultado del retiro, establecí amistades con otros hombres que son serios acerca
de cumplir con su deber como los líderes espirituales de sus familias. Los hombres necesitan hombres para apoyarlos en su camino cristiano y
este retiro se convierte en un punto de reunión para hombres.
Por lo tanto, hombres de Ss. Simón y Judas...Si, después de escuchar los anuncios acerca de este retiro en la Misa, en el boletín y en otros
lugares, que has pensado, "Hmmmm... Tal vez esto es lo que necesito. Quiero sentir más cerca de Dios, pero no sé cómo. Yo sé que
Dios está llamando a que haga más para él, pero algo me está frenando. Sé que algo falta en mi vida, pero me parece que no
puede averiguar qué. Hago buen dinero, tengo un montón de "cosas", aún así algo me falta. "
Luego, otra voz se arrastra y dice, "Oh, ese retiro no es para ti. Eso es para las personas santas. Eso es para personas que tienen
todo resuelto, que ya están cerca de Dios. Usted no va a encajar. Simplemente quédate en casa ese fin de semana y ve el
fútbol”.
Bueno, después de haber caminado alrededor de la cuadra (espiritualmente hablando), te puedo decir que esa segunda voz pertenece a. El
diablo y no quiere que usted tome el liderazgo espiritual de su familia. Él no quiere que usted crezca más cerca de Cristo. Porque sabe que si lo
hace, usted se convertirá en el poderoso lleno del Espíritu Santo, el hombre, satisfecho de ser el que Dios te creó para ser, porque un cumplido,
hombre cristiano con confianza es un adversario mortal para el Diablo.
Así que por lo tanto tienen una opción...
Desde el 18 de noviembre, tenemos 15 mujeres que se inscribieron para el retiro de la Mujer y sólo 5 hombres se han registrado para el retiro de
los Hombres. Algunas de las 15 mujeres están casadas, pero sus esposos no se han inscrito para el retiro de los Hombres. Necesitamos un
mínimo de 20 hombres y 20 mujeres para cada retiro. Si no obtenemos esos números ... puede ser que tengamos que cancelar los dos retiros.
Pero hay mucho más en juego aquí que "agarrar los números".
Hombres de Ss. Simón y Judas... Dios los está llamando. ¿Y sabe quién eres, porque mientras usted lee esto, su corazón se agita. Ven a
"Cristo Renueva Su Parroquia". Si usted está casado, anime a su esposa para ir al retiro de la Mujer. ¡Compartan las experiencias juntas!
Tu familia te necesita. Su parroquia te necesita. Y Dios te necesita... que seas el hombre en Cristo, que él creó para que fueras.
Unos Pocos Hombres Buenos... para tomar un pequeño paso hacia la felicidad y la santidad que usted está buscando.

Este año estamos haciendo algo un poco
diferente para la Navidad. Las flores de
Noche Buenas de Navidad se pueden
comprar en memoria o en dedicación de un
ser querido y se utilizaran para decorar el
altar de la catedral durante la temporada de Navidad.
Los Caballeros de Colón estarán tomando pedidos
después de las misas del diciembre 06 al 07 y diciembre
13 al 14. El costo es de $15.00 por planta y el nombre de
su ser querido va a ser escrito en una etiqueta y se coloca
en la flor de pascua.
Se venderán sólo 100 flores de pascua. ¡Asegúrese de
obtener la suya!
SAN VINCENTE DE PAUL
GRACIAS, GRACIAS, GRACIAS por toda la
comida y los pavos donados a la Sociedad de
San Vicente de Paul para la Comida de
Acción de Gracias y la Navidad. A través de
su generosidad y amor por los pobres y necesitados, la
Sociedad fueron capaz de ayudar a las familias tener una
maravillosa cena de pavo de Acción de Gracias. Nuestra
comunidad parroquial, efectivamente, escucha la llamada
de Jesús diciendo: "... cuanto hicisteis por uno de mis
más pequeños, a mí lo hicisteis."
¡Feliz Acción de Gracias !

La Asociación De Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe y
el Padre Luis Gonzalez, nos gustaría que nos
acompañaran en nuestra Primera Posada Anual:
Las Posadas iniciaran el Martes 16 de Diciembre hasta
El 23. No Habrá Posada el Domingo. La recorrida
inicia a la 7:00 p.m. desde Mary Ward House hasta el
Convento Loreto y a la Catedral. Este Horario es para
todo los días.
