Good Day! by Maureen Rupe
East Central Florida Corridor Task Force I attended a September 15th meeting of the East
Central Florida Corridor Task Force. The Task
Force is a Rick Scott Initiative, which is set up
to make Orange, Osceola and Brevard Counties
into a Super Region. A large portion of this plan
is in reaction to the Osceola County North Ranch
Sector Plan which requires an East - West corridor (both expressway plus rail) running from the
Orlando International Airport area and extending
east to connect with the Pineda Extension in Brevard. The other components of this plan include
the Port Canaveral expansion, the multi model
528 extension and All Aboard Florida.
The Governor wrote Executive Order 13-319
setting up the East Central Florida Corridor Task
Force, with members including the Executive
Director of the Florida Department of Economic
Opportunity, the Secretary of the Florida Department of Transportation, the Commissioner of Agriculture, a representative each from the Brevard,
Orange and Osceola County Commissioners,

two individuals appointed by the Governor from
environmental or conservation organizations, a
representative from Deseret Ranch, a representative of the Viera Company, two individuals
appointed from economic development or the
business community and a citizen appointed by
the Governor that resides in the area. Each of the
members may designate alternates to attend and
vote for the members.
The Task Force says it is taking the principles
from “How Shall We Grow” and “My Region.” I
was on both and certainly can’t remember what
the other counties voted for, but I certainly can’t
remember Brevard County voting for anything
similar to this plan or the principles this plan is
taking. I remember sustainment and conservation protection, where this plan seems to be
determined to make the most development and
Heaven knows where they plan to get resources
such as water, and where the wildlife will end up

ing from Melbourne to the Orlando airport and
those traveling in the opposite direction, but
the primary reason for its construction seems to
be to open the North Ranch in Osceola County
to development. It is the road that encourages
development, which eventually creates the need
for the road.
An October 4th Orlando Sentinel story by
Keven Spear, titled, “Deseret Ranches' future
metropolis would dam creeks for water,” states
“Deseret Ranches and Osceola County are planning for 500,000 residents on 133,346 acres of
ranch southeast of Orlando by the year 2080.
That’s not counting the huge development currently in progress in Viera directly opposite that
planned development. In an overview of the
East Central Florida Corridor Task Force Final
Report Draft, it states the combined population of
Brevard, Orange, and Osceola counties will rise
from 2.0 million in 2012 to 3.8 million in 2060.

conservation areas, a huge concrete bridge is
proposed to be built across the St. Johns River in
the heart of the River Lakes Conservation Area
and the West Viera Wilderness Park, which both
were supposed to be protected in perpetuity.
What about sustainability? Where do they or
we get our water? Do we drain all our rivers and
lakes? If we can’t protect our water resources
with the people we currently have, how do we
survive with another half million people? The
Orlando Sentinel story says no problem. They
will dam creeks on the Deseret Ranches. But the
story also said, “The idea of damming Wolf and
Pennywash Creeks resurrects an option from a
dark age for Florida's environment, an era that
inflicted damage the state is still repairing.” I’m
told the idea to dam these creeks was abandoned
in 1973 when it was realized the idea was environmentally devastating. I guess no one seems
to learn from history.

states local governments should amend their
Comprehensive Plans to go along with this plan
by September 30, 2015. But just to make sure
nothing gets in the way of this development, it
also states in the Executive Order that if local
governments don’t go along, it doesn’t preclude
the task force and the remaining governments
from moving forward. I read in the report about
four toll roads within the study area without actually mentioning names, but at the September
meeting all members did talk about SR 528 being
a super corridor, and they seemed to indicate that
Port Canaveral was driving that decision.
Note: I was asked what is “Sector Planning.”
According to the Draft Final Report of the Task
Force, State Statutes 163.3245 provides that
local governments or combinations of local
governments can adopt into their comprehensive
plans a long-range “sector plan” for a substantial geographic area of at least 15,000 acres to
promote and encourage long-term planning for
conservation, development and agriculture on a
landscape scale; to facilitate protection of region-

ally significant resources; and to avoid duplication of effort in terms of the level of data and
analysis required for a development of regional
impact, while ensuring the adequate mitigation
of impacts to applicable regional resources and

first adoption of a long-term master plan for the
entire planning area as part of the comprehensive
plan; and second, adoption by local development
order of two or more detailed specific area plans
that implement the long-term master plan.

Port St. John Neighborhood Watch - On
Monday, October 6th, at the Calvary Church
in Port St. John, Sheriff Wayne Ivey and deputies gave an excellent presentation on setting
up a Neighborhood Crime Watch. The hall
was packed with people, even standing. This
definitely showed the concern for the number
of home and vehicle break-ins that we’ve had in
our community.
In the early 90’s we had a Community Watch
Police Unit in Port St. John. In fact we had an
award for the best in North Brevard, but we were
the best in the county. I still have the award.
Sheriff Phil Williams had a grant from the state
that provided cars that volunteers used to patrol
streets. We were up to 35 volunteers when the
program was halted as the grant went away. For
most of the 10 years a lot of individuals put in
a great deal of time to make the program successful.
From the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office
Neighborhood Watch Frequently Asked Questions handout:
“What is Neighborhood Watch?
Neighborhood Watch is a program of mutual assistance between the Sheriff’s Office and
neighborhoods aimed at reducing crime and more
importantly, the fear of crime in our communities. Simply stated, the Neighborhood Watch
Program enables the residents of any community
to become EXTRA EYES AND EARS for law
enforcement.
How does it work?
An effective Neighborhood Watch Program
consists of a Coordinator, Block Captains and
the residents. When a crime occurs, whether it
be a crime in progress or one that has already
occurred, residents are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office FIRST. After contact with a deputy
is made, the resident should contact their Block
Captains, who in turn will contact the residents
on their ‘block.’

Fast Florida Facts - The following are from
the League of Women Voters 2014 Nonpartisan
Voter Guide:
Education:
- In 2012-13, 58.6% of Florida’s public school
students qualified for free or reduced lunch, up
from 49.6% in 2008-09.
- Florida ranked 45th in the nation for public
school teacher salaries in 2012-13.
- The state of Florida diverted $207 million to
provide vouchers to 51,075 students enrolled in
private and religious schools during the 2012-13
school year.
Healthcare:
- In 2013, Florida had one of the highest rates
of uninsured residents in the country – approximately 20%.
- The price of uncompensated care costs insured households around $1,200 per year through
increased premiums.
Environment:
- Eco-tourism generated more than $4.9 billion for Florida’s economy in 2011.
- Florida has over 1,400 water bodies that are
classified as “impaired.” This means they have a
level of pollutants that cause significant harm to
living things. Wonder why so many politicians
have been saying they are protecting our waters?

Put Your Car Keys Beside Your
Bed At Night!
Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents, your Dr's office, the check-out
girl at the market, everyone you run across. Put
your car keys beside your bed at night.
If you hear a noise outside your home or
someone trying to get in your house, just press
the panic button for your car. The alarm will be
set off, and the horn will continue to sound until
either you turn it off or the car battery dies.
This tip came from a neighborhood watch
coordinator. Next time you come home for the
night and you start to put your keys away, think
of this: It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no installation.
Test it. It will likely go off from everywhere
inside your house and will keep honking until
your battery runs down or until you reset it with
the button on the key fob chain. It works if you
park in your driveway or garage.
If your car alarm goes off when someone is
trying to break into your house, odds are the
burglar/rapist won't stick around. After a few
seconds, all the neighbors will be looking out
their windows to see who is out there and the
criminal won't want that. And remember to carry
your keys while walking to your car in a parking
lot. The alarm can work the same way there. This
should be shared with everyone. Maybe it could
save a life or a sexual abuse crime.

You know you are too old to
Trick or Treat when:
10. You get winded from knocking on the door.
9. You have to have another kid chew the candy
for you.
8. You ask for high fiber candy only.
7. When someone drops a candy bar in your bag,
you lose your balance and fall over.
6. People say: "Great Boris Karloff Mask," and
you're not wearing a mask.
5. When the door opens you yell, "Trick or..."
and can't remember the rest.
4. By the end of the night, you have a bag full
of restraining orders.
3. You have to carefully choose a costume that
won't dislodge your hairpiece.
2. You're the only Power Ranger in the neighborhood with a walker.
And the number one reason Seniors should not
go Trick Or Treating...
1. You keep having to go home to pee.

Monthly Tax Update
A number of you will be looking to start your
own business during the next two months. I’m going to give a little information on one of the issues
that may become important to you. This involves
your start up expenses and how much is immediately deductible. You may be spending a considerable amount of cash and going into substantial debt
to finance this new business activity. It is important
you understand that all these expenses may not
be fully deductible in this year or even next year.
Nevertheless, there are steps that you may take to
accelerate deductions in certain instances. First, in
accomplishing this, you need to understand how
the rules work. Here's a summary of the tax laws
for your consideration, including new legislation,
permitting you to potentially deduct all your startup expenses.
There are three categories of expenditures. Taxpayers starting a new business may incur expenses
which are currently deductible, capitalizable, or
eligible for the 60-month amortization election.
Business expenses that are ordinary and necessary
in the carrying on of a trade or business are currently deductible.
However, the Internal Revenue Code specifically prohibits an immediate deduction for the expenses connected with buying or creating an asset
with a useful life extending beyond one year. These
expenses will have to be deducted over the life of
the asset and spread out over time, usually in the
form of a depreciation deduction.
Lastly, there are expenses incurred before a trade
or business is operational and therefore, unable to
be classified as a "trade or business" expense. These
expenses must be capitalized, unless a special start
up expense treatment is elected, and amortized.
This special election allows the business to potentially deduct the start up expenses immediately,
rather than amortize them over a minimum period
of at least 60 months, beginning with the month in
which the active trade or business begins.
This overview is just the tip of the iceberg when
dealing with all the permutations possible with the
deductibility of business start-up expenses. There
are many other issues that deal with deducting
inventory, equipment, leasehold improvements,
vehicles, etc. and when deductibility begins. You
should also consider what type of entity is best for
your situation; sole proprietorship, partnership,
corporation or possibly a limited liability company,
and give consideration as to the type of tax return
that will be filed.
Also, don’t forget insurance, worker’s compensation, and payroll concerns. My advice, work
up a business plan and this way you’ll have given
consideration to most of the important aspects for
your new endeavor.
If you have any questions about how the new
rules might apply to your particular situation, or if
you'd like to consider more aggressive tax planning in connection with your current expenses, you
need to contact a tax professional for assistance. In
closing, I want to thank everyone for reading my
articles over the past year. I’m also thankful that I’m
able to provide the information to you. Our office
hopes you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and are
grateful for what you have. Happy Thanksgiving!!!
This is a very brief overview. For details and
specific assistance in applying the general information in this article, call us at your earliest convenience or contact your tax advisor. Provided by
Tracey C. Higginbotham, E.A., (321) 632-5726, a

SCHS Marching Viper Band
Marching band season is in full swing at Space
Coast High School. The Space Coast High School
Marching Viper Band has been practicing since
August to prepare their marching show for the
football games. All members of the band are in at
least one music class during the school day and
spend many extra hours after school practicing.
In August, they attended one week of band camp,
where they practiced fundamentals and started
preparations for their halftime show. The halftime
show is performed each week during high school
varsity football games.
On November 1st, the band will participate in
the District’s Marching Performance Assessment
(MPA), where they will perform before a panel
of judges and be scored on their skills. They
will also march in the PSJ Christmas Parade and
have been invited to perform at Disney’s Magic
Kingdom in December.
The Space Coast High School Marching
Band is a not-for-profit organization, relying
completely on student fees, donations and fundraising to provide the 80+ member marching
band with instruments, uniforms, transportation,
etc. In order to be successful, we need your help!

2014 PSJ Christmas Parade
Dear Neighbor,
This letter is to invite your organization to participate in the 25thAnnual Port
St. John Christmas parade. The parade
will take place on December 20, 2014, 11 AM, in
Port St. John. The parade route will be east along
Fay Blvd. from Waterloo Ave. to Carole Ave. We
are hoping for 80-90 entries again this year. Please
send your entry in early.
The theme of this year’s parade will be “Magic
of Christmas.” Floats and decorations should be
planned toward the theme. All entries will be judged
and plaques awarded. Categories include Theme,
Christmas Spirit, Creativity, Marching Musical and
Marching Non-Musical.
Floats should be no more than 17’ high to clear
power lines, and be 8’ wide or less to travel to and
from the staging area. They can be wider on the
parade route. Marching groups should plan for a
20’ wide roadway.
For everyone’s safety, CANDY MAY NOT
BE THROWN FROM THE FLOATS AND
VEHICLES. Thrown candy ricochets and small
children chase it into the street where they might
be hit by the next vehicle. If you want to hand out
candy, please be sure to have walkers accompany
your float.
There is a $30 charge for any float or vehicle
which advertises a business. The fee does not go up
if there are multiple businesses on the same float.
Nonprofit community support groups and public
schools are $15, unless they display banners and
logos for a business on their float or vehicle(s).

Rose’s Room
The Animal Planet guy once said, “Adaptation insures the continuation of a species.” I’m
not sure if some species, turkeys for instance,
would agree that adaptation is a good thing. But
this representative of species ‘Grandmotherous
Everpresentatis’ thinks it’s a wonderful thing.
Thanksgiving has always been high on my list
of favorite holidays; ya’ gotta love any holiday
that touts feasting, family, feasting, thankfulness
and food.
Making the transition from harried mother attempting to prepare mountains of food and try to
appear somewhat presentable while dealing with
five kids, to an unharried grandmother who has
time to shower and apply make up before getting dressed to go to dinner at someone ELSE’S
house was tough, but I come from hardy stock. I
triumphed. Which is not to say I don’t miss the
good old days, it’s just that some of them are
better enjoyed as reruns than they were the first
time around.
One year, under the influence of one too many
Waltons reruns, I had each child pick a dish they
could prepare. I figured if they felt more a part
of something very special, the feeling of family love and togetherness would somehow flow
through them and perhaps one day I could leave
them alone for more than five minutes without
coming back to find one of them rolled up in a
sheet or locked in the shower.
With that kind of figuring it’s no wonder my
checkbook looks like it does.
The ten year old opted for mashed potatoes;
the nine year old wanted to do the sweet potatoes. Not believing vegetable peelers to be lethal
weapons, I agreed. I also thought I was safe
with the six year old making fresh green beans,
the three year old stirring the stuffing as I diced
and chopped, and the two year old in charge of
remembering and opening the cranberry sauce.
Never before, nor since, have I so badly underestimated the ability of my children to take
the simplest of tasks to such great heights of
complexity and outright chaos. Assembling the
materials was incentive enough to call the whole
thing off and order a turkey shaped pizza.
While I was showing the six year old how to
pop the ends off the green beans, the two oldest
began sword fighting with the vegetable peelers.
When I turned to help the three year old open
the bag of stuffing, the first three stuck raw green
beans in their ears and made faces at each other.
I took my eyes off the three year old for just a
second to warn the three “Bean Sprouts” of dire
consequences, which was just enough time for
her to finish ripping open the bag of dry stuffing with such flair it ripped from top to bottom,
spreading breadcrumbs the width and breadth
of the kitchen. At that moment, the two year old
began pounding on the cans of cranberry sauce
with the can opener.
Raising my voice and my eyebrows a few
notches, I ordered “FREEZE” in a decidedly unWaltons-like manner. The ten year old rolled her
eyes, the nine year old sighed heavily.
The six year old whispered, “Darlene made
me do it.” The three-year-old sniffled, bottom
lip quivering, the two year old stuck a raw green
bean up his nose.
The menu that year included instant mashed
potatoes, canned sweet potatoes, succotash and
lectures on the virtues of maturity.
Two of my children, now fully grown responsible adults with children of their own, happened
to drop by recently while I was preparing dinner,
and feeling nostalgic, I asked if they remembered
that shining moment in our history.
I didn’t understand their mumbled answer
because they raw had green beans stuck in their
noses and ears and were sticking their tongues
out at each other.

Firefighter Bachelor Auction
Firefighters in Central Florida are coming together to help one of their own for an
Afternoon on the Lagoon and Firefighter Charity Bachelor Auction Cancer Benefit at
Crackerjack’s Island Seafood & Tiki Bar, on Saturday, November 1 from 4-10 pm. Fire
Lieutenant Stephen Whitney is a career firefighter at Kennedy Space Center and is battling
Stage Four cancer with an inoperable tumor on his right lung. Tom Van Horn, a fellow fire
fighter and close friend of Whitney says, “Having undergone twenty-seven radiation treatments and currently receiving chemotherapy, Steve’s co-pays and monthly out-of-pocket
medical expenses continue to grow.”
This benefit will help relieve some of the financial burden his family has incurred during
his treatment process. Join the Whitney family and friends, rain or shine, dressed in island
attire by the lagoon for a good time to support a great cause. Admission to the event is free;
enjoy a fish fry for just $10 per person. Multiple high value raffles are planned, including
a 12’ Jackson Cuda Fishing Kayak from Kayaks by Bo, a Henry Classic Lever Action .22
Rifle from Mosquito Creek Outdoors, several all-inclusive fishing charters and more.
Family-friendly activities to fill the afternoon include Dunk a Firefighter and more. Once
the sun goes down, the grown-ups will get to cut loose with live entertainment, including
a Firefighter Bachelor Auction where ladies can bid for a date with local hunky heroes!
For more information, contact Tom Van Horn at 407-416-1187 or visit Facebook.com/
SteveWBenefit.
Contributions can also be made at any Launch Federal Credit Union branch under “Stephen Whitney Donation Account” (account # 3244912).

A new children's book has been released by
Jeffrey Bates of Port St. John. The book is entitled
"The Little Bucket" (May 2014). The story is an
enchanting, simple mythic tale of heroic proportions where The Little Bucket discovers the real
secret to a happy and full-filled life.
This book is meant for children, but is also a
meditation for adults to discover something. It
is a conversation starter around such things as
boundaries, empathy, bullying and self respect.
The story pulls the reader into an imaginative
journey where insights can be gained and where
inspiration and depth can be found.
The book also contains a page of provacative
questions to help begin conversations. "I believe
that children, young and old, often hide from
feelings which are hard to express. Kids will see
this in The Little Bucket. So, we need a model
to help us see more deeply into ourselves and
understand ourselves better. This is an important
time now and we need to help our kids become
emotionally intelligent and to provide a way for
them to express feelings such as sadness, fear and
loneliness so they don't become giants they have
to conquer later in adult life." says the author. He

conversation about the things that are the most
difficult to talk about.

Horseback Ride Helps
Protect Our Children
The event features two-hour rides at 9 AM
and 11:30 AM on Saturday, December 6 through
breathtakingly beautiful trails maintained by
Horseback Trail Rides in Cocoa. All of the
horses are docile and gentle. Many have been
rescued from neglect. They are accustomed to
riders and the trails. The staff and volunteers at
Horseback Trail Rides provide guided rides on
horses saddled and fully prepared for fun. Riders
of all ages and levels of experience are welcome.
All proceeds are donated to Protect Our
Children, Inc., Brevard’s local group working
to protect children from sexual abuse. POC is
celebrating twenty years of service to local kids.
The charity uses the funds to operate its victim
support services, court monitor program and
community alert system.
Protect Our Children made it possible for
some deserving local kids to participate on a
“scholarship” basis. Why not join us next year,
or sponsor a day out for one of our little friends.
Donations are $40 per ride, whether riding or
sponsoring. Contact GuardianBrevard@Gmail.

know the format for the meeting, but hopefully
there will be public input.
THE PECANS ARE COMING! - The annual CGHI Pecan Sale is scheduled to begin November 1st if everything goes according to plan.
We will be offering the Commodore Pecan this
season. It is a higher quality grade of pecan with
a higher oil content, making it sweeter than the
regular pecans. They will be cleaned and shelled
in 1 lb. bags prepared for us by the South Georgia
Pecan Company of Valdosta. No muss no fuss,
ready to grab and go. The cost this year is $10.00
per pound, so please help support your Canaveral
Groves Homeowners Association. Any questions,
please give me a call at 632-7483. I am having
to coordinate everything for Conley this year as
he is still recovering from some health issues.
I spoke with Conley today and he said that he
is getting better every day. He is having to use
a walker and sometimes a cane to get around. If
you did not know, Conley had a hip replacement
done but while he was in rehab, he suffered a
mild heart attack. It is almost impossible to get
that "Georgia Boy" to slow down, but this threw
him for a loop. I am sure that he will be out and
about as soon as he can, keeping things going
here in the Groves.
Good friend Rick Jackson is home now recuperating from a recent surgical procedure. His
wife Maria told me that he was improving, but
the process was very slow. I know that Rick is
ready to be back on the river as soon as possible.
All the best.
Thoughts and Prayers go out to Theresa Kroning and her family. Theresa's father recently
passed and we certainly share her joy and sorrow
in this difficult time. Theresa is the wife of our
CGHI President, Paul Kroning.
On a happier note, we would like to welcome
new members John and Diane Pedro, Kevin and
Abby Brown and Les and Jewell Neill. We look
forward to your participation and input to our
organization.
Illegal contractor dumping here in the Groves
seems to be creating situations for all of us. Illegal dumping is a felony offense and should be
reported to the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. For violations, you may call
toll free, 1-888-404-3922. Lets stop this before
it gets out of hand.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE ON
NOVEMBER 4TH. It is so important that you
make your vote count. The November ballot is
both front and back, so be sure and check both
sides before submitting your ballot to make sure
that you voted. It helps if you do a little research
before you vote. It will go much faster.
Here is wishing you and yours a Happy
Thanksgiving and that means that Christmas is
just around the corner :0).
....... A Parting Shot From The Cannon .........
This is just an example of some of Will Rogers' great wit. Hope you enjoy them.
Will Rogers, an Oklahoma part Cherokee native, who died in a 1935 plane crash, was one of
the greatest political sages this country has ever
known. Originally a cowboy rope-trick artist, he
traveled with road shows through S. America,
Africa, Europe and became a star in the Ziegfield
Follies upon his return to USA. He became so
popular for his humorous observations given
on stage between rope tricks he was invited to
the White House; wrote hundreds of newspaper
columns; appeared in numerous movies and was
a true American hero when he and pilot Wiley
Post perished when their plane crashed in Alaska.
Some of his sage advice:
1. Never slap a man who's chewing tobacco.
2. Never kick a cow chip on a hot day.
3. There are two theories to arguing with a
woman. Neither works.
4. Never miss a good chance to shut up.
5. Always drink upstream from the herd.
6. If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.
7. The quickest way to double your money is to
fold it in half and put it back into your pocket.
8. There are three kinds of men: The ones that
learn by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric
fence and find out for themselves.
9. Good judgment comes from experience, and
a lot of that comes from bad judgment.
10. If you're riding ahead of the herd, take a look
back every now and then to make sure it's still
there.
11. Lettin' the cat outta’ the bag is a whole lot
easier'n puttin' it back.
12. After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion
felt so good he started roaring. He kept it up until
a hunter came along and shot him.
The moral: When you're full of bull, keep
your mouth shut.
Until next month, Lord willin' and the creek
don't rise, I remain your humble servant.

5th Annual Momma G
“TRY”ATHLON
The 5th Annual Momma G “TRY”ATHLON,
sponsored and powered by Keeping Good Health
with Shaklee, took place in the Groves on Saturday October 11th. It was a delightful experience
for all, “competitors” and volunteers alike. Competitors included 21 adults, 7 toddlers and 3 dogs.
The event started at 7:30 A.M. with a bike
ride, a 10 minute swim and a run or walk of 1
mile or 3 miles. The bike ride of 6 miles started
at the home of the founder of the event, Debbie
Graham, and had two stops along the way at the
homes where residents had offered the use of
their pools for the 10 minute swim.
Bikers stopped at either pool to do the swim,
then resumed biking, finishing back at Debbie’s
home, and began a run or walk of 1 mile or 3
miles. Since the themes of the “TRY”ATHLON
are good health, fun and family friendly fellowship, the usual arduous aspects of a triathlon
were not necessary. All phases and distances
were optional.
Most participants brought their bikes over to
Debbie’s the night before the race and enjoyed a
spaghetti dinner supplemented by salad, toasted
garlic bread and a beverage. (The dinner was
excellent!!) After the event on Saturday, snacks
were provided. Prizes were also awarded and a
drawing was held. The event, dinner and snacks
were all FREE!
Debbie was motivated to do something meaningful in celebration of her 50th birthday in 2010,
saying, “What am I going to do for my 50th,
something that will encourage others to have
a healthy experience and have fun, too?” The
“TRY”ATHLON is the result. Debbie believes
prevention is the key to good health.
The next “TRY”ATHLON will occur on the
second Saturday of October, 2015. Debbie can be
reached at 321-631-6619 for information.

What beautiful weather we are having as I
write this month's article. The Bees are humming
all around the fall flowers and blossoms. I often
have wondered why bees hum so I decided to call
my brother by another mother, famed naturalist
and dweller in the woods, Jerry Wall. I posed
the question to Jerry as to why bees hum? After
a long silence Jerry replied, " It is because they
don't know the words! " I guess I had better stick
to GOOGLE.
Anyway, cool mornings and balmy afternoons
are the perfect combination to stimulate the
creative juices. We recently had one of our rare
