Relay For Life is Coming
Relay for Life, an organization of American Cancer
Society, has kicked off for
2014 and teams are already
raising money for the fight against cancer, a severe health challenge that does - or will - affect
all of us at some time in our lives. Many of us
have lost family or loved ones to cancer. Many
of our friends, family and neighbors are fighting
right now. It’s time we all worked to find a cure.
Port St. John Relay for Life will happen on
April 18, 2015, but the teams are raising money
now. If you have been approached by a team to
help, please do. If you would like to start a team
and need help or information, or if you would like
to join a team, call Randy Rodriguez at 863-7499.
You don’t have to spend the night, but it is a lot
of fun! And you get to meet a lot of great people.
The website for the Port St. John event is:
www.relayforlife.org. Use 32927 for location.
Or: www.facebook.com/#!/pages/PSJ-Relayfor-Life-201. Or call Randy Rodriguez at 321863-7499.
Eat Pizza to Save Lives
Don’t feel like driving? Domino’s Pizza will
be hosting Relay Night every Monday from
now through April. Call them at
321-632-6781 and let them know
you’re calling for Relay for Life.
The great crew there will take
care of the rest. Oh yeah, and
make you a great pizza. Or two. Or three! Don’t
forget some wings and pasta.
The cures, the healing drugs, the transportation to doctors and treatment all start with someone raising money to help. To fight! Thank you.
Thank you for supporting Relay for Life and
American Cancer Society.

Good Day! by Maureen Rupe
Liquid Natural Gas
There was a February 10, 2015 story on
the website www.naturalgasintel.com titled,
“Proposed Plant Would Export Containerized
LNG from Port Canaveral, FL.” The story states
“American LNG, the prospective builder of the
$250 million LNG production facility, seeks
DOE approval to ship up to 30.2 Bcf annually,
or 600,000 metric tons of LNG over a 20-year
period to unspecified FTA countries. Domestic
gas supplies would be liquefied at the proposed
plant in Titusville, FL, which is being developed.
LNG ultimately would be delivered to customers
via truck or rail for transportation and other domestic uses and/or shipped in tanks via container
ships to deliver outside the United States.”
Reading it made me wonder if it was talking
about the same LNG facility, but later in the article it stated the plant was west of U.S. Highway
1 and north of Kings Highway. Then I remembered there is a compression ratio from natural
gas to LNG: 600 to 1. I emailed Matt Davis, who

is representing TICO Development Partners LLC
on the LNG facility, to try to gain a layperson’s
explanation. He explained the following:
“The maximum size that was approved by the
city is up to 1 million gallons per day, however it
could be built smaller depending on the market.
Rail cars can hold up to 30,000 gallons or ISO
containers up to 10,000 gallons. Depending on
where the fuel is shipped, it could go by rail or
truck.”
I also found on www.prometheusenergy.
com/_pdf/LNGQuickFactsDatasheet that one
gallon of LNG is equal to 82.6 cubic feet of
natural gas, so if the facility will be processing 1
million gallons of LNG, that is 82.6 million cubic
feet of natural gas per day, which does add up to
30.2 billion cubic feet per year.
Given those numbers, the new LNG facility will have the ability to process 33 rail cars
(30,000 gallon) or 100 ISO containers (10,000
gallon) per day, or 12,045 rail cars (30,000
gallon) or 36,500 ISO semi-tanker containers
(10,000 gallon) per year. What goes out has to
(321) 264-9736
Fax: 269-5385
come in, so if it’s just moved by semi-tanker,
that is 8 semi-trucks coming in and leaving every
hour per day, every day for the 365 days in the
year. You can load 2 semi-tankers on a railcar,
so instead of shipping by truck, they could add
another 20 railcars per day. If moved just by the
30,000 gallon railcars, and assuming a railcar
will average 55 feet long, a train over a quarter
mile long (1,815 feet) will be leaving every day
with semi-tankers on the rail car.
I’m assuming half will be by truck and half
by railcar, and if so, 17 railcars a day and 4
semi-tankers entering and leaving per hour. If
they can store 5 million gallons on the property
at any one time, and still assuming half by rail
and half by semi-tanker, that would be 82 tanker
railcars and 250 semi-tankers on site of LNG. It
had never been brought to me by quantities of
ISO containers before when talking “1 million
gallons of LNG per day.”
I know there is a lot of planning to take place
including plan layouts, safety and emergency
procedures, local, state and federal reviews,

before this $250 million LNG facility will start
construction, so look for updates on all information as I receive it.
I had questions concerning whether someone
living in Port St. John should expect their home
insurance to go up due to living close to an LNG
plant and the effect on property values. I have
asked a couple of the best insurance agents, who
said it should have no impact on our insurance
rates. Your rates have more to do with your use
of your property (residential or commercial) as
opposed to living near any commercial facility.
As far property values, we already live between two power plants and an airport, which I’m
sure already has some effect. However, the number of foreclosures in the area and what adjacent
properties are selling for in your neighborhood
has more affect than a facility that will probably
be out of sight from most residents.
I’m still more positive concerning this project
than keeping it away, especially with the huge
train accident in West Virginia with the massive
oil spill that was still burning the next day, and the

Yellowstone oil spill sending over 50 thousand
gallons down the longest undammed river in the
U.S. The only recent accident in the U.S. was in
Washington with tanks holding 1.2 billion cubic
feet, which is 375 times the largest tank they will
be filling at our TICO site. We have to move away
from oil and LNG is a lot less polluting and safer
than continuing to use oil.

More Info Concerning LNG Property
TICO Development Partners, LLC, an affiliate
of privately held Florida East Coast Industries
(FECI), also has other interests on their property.
They have a large property just on the north side
of the power plant. Canaveral Port Authority has
entered into an agreement with TICO Development Partners, LLC for a long term lease on
an approximate 250,000 square foot logistics
building that TICO Development will build on
the property between the railroad and US 1 just
north of the old OUC power plant. According to
TICO Development, that logistics building has
nothing to do with the LNG facility.
Turning in Old Prescription Drugs
I heard you could drop off old prescription
drugs at any time to the Sheriff’s Office. I went
to the Barbara Pill Station on State Road 405.
When I got inside, they told me they would have
to pull a Deputy off the road to complete a report,
but was advised if I took them to the Titusville
Police Station at the corner of State Road 405 and
Grissom Blvd. they had a container bin that you
just drop the drugs in. I asked them why the difference and didn’t get answer. I then went to the

Titusville Police Station and straight across from
the entrance door there was a container with a lid
with a sign above it indicating the drug drop-off
point. I asked why a Deputy had to be called in
to make a report at the Barbara Pill BCSO Station (which didn’t surprise me) and they don’t. I
received no answer.
Subsequently, as I felt uncomfortable, I called
the Sheriff’s office, which stated the report was
the Sheriff’s policy as they cannot take certain
substances (especially liquid), and to document
exactly what drugs had been received. I’m sure
it is to ensure traceability of any drugs.
All are good reasons and I feel the Sheriff’s
Office is taking the right action. I think Titusville
PD needs to rethink their safety, as I could have
dropped off most anything. If the receptionist
was asked to get information, anyone could
probably pull out any drugs that had been put in
the container.
Brevard County Building Report
January was an excellent month for building
in Brevard County. Single family home permits
building activity not only went up from the previous month (December had 52 single family home
permits), but January had over three times more
single family home permits issues since 2008
when the numbers started being recorded on the
numbers reported in their monthly report. The
average number from 2008 through 2015 is just
under 43, and the highest number (besides this
year) was in 2013 with 48.
Overall construction values were surprisingly
high for January, especially when you compare
January to previous months. Besides a fluke
April in 2009 that had the construction value
over $14 million, January’s construction value
of $58,999,588 was the highest of any month
since 2006. Definitely good news and if it keeps
up, at least some in the county should celebrate.
As this goes up, it usually means an increase in
home values throughout the area.
State Congress Against Citizen’s Initiatives
What do our State Representatives and Senators have against Florida’s citizens when we
exercise our right to amend the state constitution?
According to a 02/11/2015 Miami Herald article
by Paula Dockery, titled, “Stop stonewalling
citizen initiatives,” there seems to be a lot, as
our state legislature seems to hate it if we try to
amend the constitution instead of them.
The article stated the different ways to amend
our state Constitution: 1) the Legislature, with a
three-fifths vote of both chambers. We then vote
on it, with enough numbers (60% now) for the
Constitution to be amended. 2) A Citizens’ Initiative, where enough signatures need to be gathered
geographically across the state, then requiring the
ballot language and title to be reviewed by the
Florida Supreme Court. Then we need vote on it
with the same 60% margin to make pass it. 3) A
Constitution Revision Commission. 4) A Taxation and Budget Review Commission every 20
years, and 5) the rare Constitutional Convention.
The Legislature has never liked Citizen’s
Initiatives, and besides making it so hard to get
through, they also made a constitutional amendment in 2014 requiring 60 % of the voters to pass
amendments. Surprisingly that vote only received
58% of the vote, but 60% wasn’t required then,
so it passed.
Looking back at the Florida’s Citizen’s Initiatives, our legislature has continued to ignore us.
The following are what happened according to
the article, and seems to be fairly accurate:
▪ Lottery: The Legislature played a shell
game of using lottery funds to replace rather
than supplement basic education funding. The
amendment supporters intended the funds to be
used for education enhancements.
▪ High-speed rail: The Legislature dragged
its feet on implementation for four years, giving
Gov. Jeb Bush time to get the issue back on the
ballot for repeal.
▪ Class size: When attempts to place the item
back on the ballot for repeal failed, the Legislature got creative with the timing of the counts and
the flexibility of counting within the school and
then the district rather than the actual classroom.
Rolling the class-size reduction funding into the
per-pupil spending made it difficult to determine
what was spent on class-size versus instruction.
“Fair district” amendments for legislative and
congressional redistricting were pretty much
ignored as the ongoing lawsuits are pointing out.
Why do we keep electing representatives
who keep ignoring the citizens? Seems our representatives could care less what we think. They
may be putting on a show to make us think they
care, but….then as they are currently with land
conservation, the Legislature is already talking of
taking funding from other conservation projects
and forcing it all under Amendment 1 to starve
documentation stamps from accomplishing what
the ballot was intended to achieve.
Although Amendment 1 passed by 75% of
the vote, and stated 33 percent of documentarystamp revenue would be for new water and land
conservation, we now have our Representatives
and Senators scheming to make the documentary
stamp revenue cover all current projects, so no
little finds funds will be available for new water
and conservation. Why should they care when
they have gotten away with it so many times in
the past?
As the article states: “The Legislature seems
to fast-track initiatives that special-interest
groups got on the ballot on their behalf as well
as those legislatively initiated, such as parental
notification, tax exemptions and higher education governance. And remarkably they seem to
be implemented as intended.”
What has happened to our government by the
people, for the people?
What happens when our rights of Ballot Initiatives are ignored time after time, even with a
75% mandate from the people? This is not a party
concern. I don’t care what affiliation. This is a
matter of honor; to implement what the people
have worked so hard and spent a huge amount
of money to place on the ballot, and have won
through the polls. Even if the initiative is something you personally didn’t agree with, it should
be outrageous that the will of the people doesn’t
matter to the Legislature.
Why in the world do we keep voting the
same State Representatives and Senators back
into office?

Monthly Tax Update
Did you know that IRS can help if you have
missing W-2’s? Usually, you will receive your
W-2’s by the end of January. This is the form that
shows your income and taxes withheld from your
wages so you can file an accurate tax return. If
you haven’t received your form by mid-February,
here’s what you should do: Contact your employer. Ask your employer (or former employer)
for a copy and be sure they have your correct
address. If after Feb. 23 and your employer
fails to provide you with a copy, then call the
IRS at 800-829-1040. Upon your request, the
IRS will send a letter to your employer on your
behalf. Provide IRS with your name, address,
Social Security number and phone number; your
employer’s name, address and phone number;
the dates you worked for the employer; and an
estimate of your wages and federal income tax
withheld in 2014. You may be able to use your
final pay stub for these amounts.
If acquiring the W-2 has been unsuccessful,
then you will use Form 4852, Substitute for Form
W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, and estimate
your wages and taxes withheld. However, you
may not be able to electronically file the return,
so a mailed paper return would be required, and
expect IRS will need more time to process your

Next, I want to discuss Capital Gains and
Losses. When you sell a capital asset, the sale
results in a capital gain or loss. A capital asset
includes most property you own for personal use
or own as an investment. Here are a few facts that
you should know about capital gains and losses.
Capital Assets: Capital assets include property
such as your home or car, as well as investment
property, such as stocks and bonds.
Gains and Losses: A capital gain or loss is the
difference between your basis and the amount
you get when you sell an asset. Your basis is
usually what you paid for the asset.
Deductible Losses: You can deduct capital
losses on the sale of investment property. You
cannot deduct losses on the sale of property that
you hold for personal use.
Long and Short Term: Capital gains and losses
are either long-term or short-term, depending on
how long you held the property. If you held the
property for more than one year, your gain or loss
is long-term. If you held it one year or less, the
gain or loss is short-term.
Net Capital Gain: If your long-term gains are
more than your long-term losses, the difference
between the two is a net long-term capital gain.
If your net long-term capital gain is more than
your net short-term capital loss, you have a net
capital gain.
Tax Rate: The capital gains tax rate usually
depends on your income. The maximum net
capital gain tax rate is 20 percent. However, for
most taxpayers a zero or 15 percent rate will apply. A 25 or 28 percent tax rate can also apply to
certain types of net capital gains.
Limit on Losses: If your capital losses are
more than your capital gains, you can deduct the
difference as a loss on your tax return. This loss
is limited to $3,000 per year, or $1,500 if you are
married and file a separate return.
Carryover Losses: If your total net capital loss
is more than the limit you can deduct, you can
carry over the losses you are not able to deduct to
next year’s tax return. You will treat those losses
as if they happened in that next year. The forms
used for reporting your capital gains and losses
are on Schedule D and Form 8949.
This is a very brief overview. It is your responsibility to discuss any tax and financial changes
with your professional advisor so he can assist
you in evaluating your situation. For details and
specific assistance in applying the general information in this article, call us at your earliest
convenience or contact your tax advisor.

ST. PATRICK CATHEDRAL
"An Anglican Church in the Catholic Tradition"
4797 Curtis Blvd., Port St. John, FL. 32927
The Anglican Church in America is a jurisdiction of the ancient church---that part of Christ's
church known as the CONTINUING ANGLICAN
CHURCH and is not to be confused with the ANGLICAN COMMUNION or EPISCOPAL CHURCH.
As a name and as an organization, the Anglican
Church in America is a member of the faith delivered by JESUS CHRIST to His Apostles and it truly
stands in the Apostolic Succession. What does this
mean? That all Bishops Priests & Deacons trace
their lineage back to the Apostles, their witness,
and their work as given them by JESUS CHRIST. It
means that the ANGLICAN CHURCH in America
represents no new faith, but is a continuation of the
ancient and well defined faith once delivered unto
the Saints. (JUDE 1:3). It is a Sacramental Church
utilizing the outward and visible signs as a pledge
and assurance of the inward and spiritual grace
given by God through the sacraments. These are the
same gifts which the Apostles and the early church
have passed down to us as a means of eternal life
and to strengthen, comfort, and bring us closer to
God and each other as members of the BODY OF
CHRIST. The Sacraments we are referring to are
BAPTISM-HOLY COMMUNION-CONFIRMATION-RECONCILIATION-ANOINTING OF THE
SICK-HOLY ORDERS-MATRIMONY. We hold
the sacred Scriptures as the rule of Faith with the
Nicene, Apostle's, and Athanasius creeds being the
summary of all the articles of Christian belief. The
ACA which is the governing authority has always
believed and taught as essential doctrine, what can
be proven by Scripture and what was held and taught
by the Church in its original and undivided state.
The ACA has no novel or original doctrine of its
own. It holds fast to that which was delivered unto
the Apostles. It is the unwavering continuity in Religious Faith which has been the mark of the true faith
throughout the centuries. In times when novelty and
wavering have swept away many, the ACA stands
firmly rooted in the ancient traditions of the ONE,
HOLY, CATHOLIC, and APOSTOLIC CHURCH.
The source and summit of the worship of the
ACA is found in the HOLY SACRIFICE of the
Mass as celebrated in the 1928 prayer book of Common Prayer and the ANGLICAN MISSAL. These
historic worship books aid in all daily and Sunday
prayer and worship. It is not of worldly display of
pomp and pageantry, but the giving to God to the
best we can as He requires of us. The mission of the
church is two fold: to be the presence of Christ in
the world, and to draw others to Him, inviting them
to share the benefits of His fellowship and the work
of the church, and the nurturing and building up of
the souls with Christ in their lives. The liturgical
practice is one of which was celebrated at one time
in the Roman Catholic Church with the Priest facing the Crucifix and the reception of the true BODY
& BLOOD OF CHRIST at the altar railing. If you
have any confusion as to what the Anglican Catholic
Church is about, you may stop in and speak to our
very informed clergy which are BISHOP JOHN
VAUGHAN and FATHER MARK SEIGEL.
Our service days and times are listed in the
happenings and our clergy can give you whatever
answers you seek. Please join us for mass and speak
to our clergy. We hope to see you soon!

Rose’s Room
Scammers are still among us even here in PSJ where family rules and
we feel safe.
My husband received a call recently on our home phone from someone
claiming to be our grandson, he said he had been arrested for DUI and needed
bail money. Our grandson has a pretty recognizable voice and a bit of a speech
problem, but since my husband is a little hard of hearing he could not swear
the voice belonged to our grandson so he was skeptical.
Normally my husband knows exactly what to do when a child or grandchild presents a problem…(Hand me the phone and remember something
terribly important he left undone in the garage.) Since he was on his own
and not absolutely sure he was speaking to our grandson he asked for more
information –where were you arrested? When? What was the officer’s name?
Are you in jail now? The person said he would have his lawyer call my husband back and got off the phone. Within 5 minutes a lady with a thick foreign
accent called back and said she was from a United Nations organization that
helps people get out of jail. She told my husband he could just send her the
money and she would help our grandson get out of jail without having to
use a Bail Bondsman. My husband asked for more information but could
not understand what she was saying so he asked if there was a website he
could go to and she said yes then hung up.
The caller ID just showed a number 1 and nothing else. I called the jail
where he was supposedly arrested and all they could tell me was he was not
in jail right now, I went online to the public records and there was no arrest
record or mug shot. We were finally able to get in touch with our grandson
the next morning and he said he had not been arrested and everything was

fine. (He added that he loves me dearly but should he ever get arrested
for DUI he would beg them to keep him in jail until he was absolutely
sure I was safely in my home…500 miles away. Smart man…)
I called the sheriff department where he was supposedly arrested to
make a complaint and was stair-stepped to four different people who
listened to my story then gave me another number to call; the last one
said I should call the sheriff department in my own county, which I did.
What bothers me is the person or people who did this knew we have a
grandson we call RJ although his name is Roger Thomas and that he is
in Georgia -although the county they named was far away from where he
lives-and they knew our land line number…(Who would think anyone
has a land line these days?)
Law enforcement has warned repeatedly about this and other similar
scams involving a call from a family member supposedly in trouble and
in need of money, some coming by phone and some by e-mail but all involving a knowledge of way too much personal information. They advise
never give nor acknowledge any kind of information, even something as
simple as yes, I have a grandson named… Once again, please be careful
of information inadvertently given out on social media. An innocent ‘My
granddaughter Belinda is doing so great at Florida State and just loves
her new roommate,” can have consequences.
If you believe you may be a victim of a scam contact your local law
enforcement agency immediately, also this time of year many scams
involve taxes or returns. They advise should you receive one of these
calls contact the IRS at the same time. Law enforcement will come to
your home and take a statement to file a fraud report.
Ed. note - I heard a new scam last week from a friend. He was surfing
and he had a warning pop up on his screen from Norton (a well respected
anti-virus program which he uses). It said he had been attacked by a very
dangerous virus and he needed to contact a 1-800 number right away.
He did so while his computer screen was locked up with the warning.
The “tech support agent” who answered affirmed that it was a very serious virus, then had him go through a few steps to “try to get rid of it the
easy way.” That didn’t work, so he asked for remote access to solve the
problem. The screen cleared. Then the “agent” told him there was a fee
for the service and needed payment before he could disconnect from the
computer, and that the virus would remain and destroy his hard drive if
payment wasn’t made. Electronic kidnapping, I believe. My friend didn’t
pay. As soon as he hung up, the hard drive was erased.
Be very careful. There is also a Brighthouse warning. ~ Randy

Young Eagle Flight Rally
Area young people ages 8 to 17 will have the
chance to take to the sky on Saturday March 28,
2015 as the Experimental Aircraft Association
(EAA) Chapter 724 hosts a Young Eagles Flight
Rally at the Merritt Island Airport, 900 Airport
Road, Merritt Island. Go to www.EAA724.org
for directions to the airport.
“The Airplane rides are FREE,” said Dwight
Bell, Chapter Coordinator for the event. “We
hope to build a one on one relationship between
the Pilots and the young people, thus giving the
new generation a chance to learn more about the
possibilities that exist in the world of Aviation,
while enjoying the thrill of flying.”
Pilots will explain more about their airplanes
and the function of flight controls, how Pilots
ensure the airplane is safe to fly, which is a prime
concern before each and every flight.
The flights are an average of twenty minutes,
depending on the type airplane. Following the
flight, each young person (Young Eagle) will
receive a Certificate making him or her an Official Young Eagle and a personal Flight Log Book
from Sporty’s Pilot Shop. Their names will also
be entered into the “Worlds Largest Log Book”
in Oshkosh, WI.
Registration begins at 9 AM and stops at 12
Noon. A Parent or Guardian must accompany
the young folks and sign them in at the registration desk, giving the Pilots permission to fly
their young ones. All documents are filled in and
signed at the time.
All Pilots and Airplanes are certified by the
FAA and insured. Want more information? Email [email protected] or phone 321636-5346 (Bobbi) and leave a message.

Commissioner Haddox has placed an item
requesting funds to stop the train on the February 17th BOCC agenda. Commissioner Solaris
has done the same in Indian River County. Send
an auto email here to support these proposals:
https://www.citizensagainstthetrain.com/contactyour-commissioners#.VOZM9flzSHg.
The economic damage that would be caused
to Martin County alone by high speed trains is
beyond calculation. The Martin County tax assessor indicates the ranges of immediate economic
damage near the tracks. Taking the midpoint of
her range of numbers results in an annual revenue
loss of $5,000,000. In ten years, that estimated
loss to Martin County alone will be $50,000,000.
That shortfall will be paid back by an increase
in the tax rate on ALL property owners, not just
those near the tracks. Multiply this by the impact
in Indian River and St. Lucie County - the Pain
of the Train will have lasting toxic impact, high
cost and no benefit.
A proactive move by the Treasure Coast counties would make perfect economic sense. It would
save millions in the long run.
The situation in Indian River County and St.
Lucie County will be similar. Although the February date has passed, I just wanted you to see
that they are taking an aggressive stand to stop
the A.A.F. Project.
Closer to home, the most recent activity at
the Brevard County Commission level concerning A.A.F. took place in November when Commissioners voted 3-2 in a plan that would allow
A.A.F. to pursue a private financing plan through
what is known as private activity bonds.
The Port Authority is funding a feasibility
study as to where a train station should be built.
Cocoa's close proximity to Port Canaveral and
Melbourne's airport would certainly be topics
of consideration. Evidently, the Port Authority
knows something because A.A.F. continues to
say that there is no meeting scheduled for Brevard
County. Please voice your concerns to Commissioner Robin Fisher's office at 321-264-6750.
Canaveral Groves Homeowner's Association
voted unanimously to award the Good Citizenship Award at Fairglen Elementary School again
this school year. The 6th grade teaching team
will select one boy and one girl to receive this
Award. The Award consists of a Good Citizenship
Medallion and a $50.00 gift card. We are excited
and pleased to continue this recognition of our
outstanding youth. This Award will be part of
the Fairglen 2015 Awards recognition ceremony
that will probably be held at the school in May.
We are inviting a Deputy to give us an update
on any incidents having occurred here in the
Groves at our March 12th meeting. I know that
there have been a few home robberies in the last
few weeks so now is not the time to let your guard
down. Make sure that your vehicles are locked
at night and please close your garage doors.
Many times success is achieved by removing the
temptation from a would be perpetrator. It is sad
to say, but you need to keep your doors locked
as well, especially if your property is not fenced
and you don't own a "junk yard dog." Many of
our residents are now using video cameras and
that is a great deterrent as well as evidence in
achieving a conviction. This is really a sad state
of events for us here in the Groves.
In talking with Ed Silva, there is a Citizen's
Patrol vehicle available to us. It is kept at Station 29 on Canaveral Groves Blvd. If you are
interested in volunteering, contact the Brevard
County Sherriff's Dept. There is a training course
as well as a background check involved if you
are interested. The more eyes we have out there,
the less chance of criminal activity.
........A Parting Shot From The Cannon..........
Carpool
A recent college graduate took a new job in a
hilly Eastern city and began commuting each day
to work through a tiring array of tunnels, bridges,
and traffic jams.
To make the task less onerous, he invited
several of his co-workers to share the ride.
He soon found, however, that the commute
continued to get more stressful, especially the
trips through the tunnels. He consulted the company doctor.
"Doc," the frustrated commuter complained,
"I'm fine on the bridges, in the traffic, in the day
and at night, and even when Joe forgets to bathe
all week long. But when I get into the tunnels and
I've got those four other guys crowded around me
in the car, I get anxious and dizzy and feel like
I'm going to explode."
Without further analysis, the doctor announced he had identified the ailment.
"What is it, Doc? Am I going insane?"
"No, no, no, my boy. You have something very
common in these parts."
"Tell me! What is it?"
"You have what is known as Carpool Tunnel
Syndrome."
Until next time, Lord willin' and the creek
don't rise, I remain your servant.

ALL ABOARD FLORIDA... I received a call
from Mr. David Goetz, who thought I would
be interested in an article in the February issue
of BoatU.S. magazine. The article, by Nicole
Payla Wood, is titled, “This Train Service Won't
Amuse Boaters.” She points out that All Aboard
Florida will create safety hazards and obstructions for hundreds of boaters needing bridge
openings between Miami and Orlando. As many
of us know, the A.A.F. Project has been divided
into two segments for regulatory and planning
purposes. The first segment, or Phase 1, will
provide rail service from West Palm Beach to
Miami. Phase ll will extend service to Orlando
International Airport and, according to Ms.
Woods article, they plan on pushing on to con-
nect with the Disney Theme Parks. Even though
they will be primarily on the current F.E.C. right
of way, boaters will have to navigate the navigable
waterways with increased numbers of railway
closures each day. This will lead to much longer
queue lines at the bridges that have traffic issues
now. Boats under tow as boaters waiting to clear
the bridges will have greater challenges than they
already have.
Citizen groups to our south are actively working to stop the train. Below is an e-mail I received
from one of the groups:
