Dear Friends:
E
very so often it becomes necessary to look at where we are, where we are going and what
positive changes need to be made. We call this a self-assessment. All institutions, who have
a goal and mission, do periodic self-assessments. With this in mind, I have consulted with
our Parish Staff and with the Pastoral Council. Our goal is to have a self-assessment, done
by the parishioners, in four or five major areas. The first assessment will be about the Liturgy and Worship here at Our Lady of Hope. In late March you will be given the opportunity
to assist us in answering the questions: where are we, where are we going and what positive
aspects of liturgy and worship should be addressed. Please know your input will be important. Thank you!
Yours in Christ,
Very Rev. Michael A. Carrano

LENTEN REFLECTIONS
As part of our parish Lenten offerings
and Easter preparation, we will once
again offer on the Wednesdays of Lent,
continuing through March 18th ~ films which will
not only entertain but be a source of inspiration and
conversation.
MARCH 4th LIFE FOR LIFE-Maximilian Kolbe
Auschwitz, 1941. One of the prisoners, Jan, escapes
from the German concentration camp while working
at a gravel pit. Thanks to the help of good-hearted
people he finds shelter. There Jan hears tragic news
about ten random inmates sentenced to death by starvation by the Nazis as a punishment for his escape.
One among the convicts is Fr. Maximillian Kolbe, a
Franciscan priest who volunteered to die in place of
one of the inmates. “Life for Life” reflects thoughtfully on what the cult of the saints means for us, on the
nature of hagiography itself. This film explores how
the saints can and should inspire us. Kolbe has been
proclaimed as the “patron saint of the difficult 20th
century”.
MARCH 11th FAUSTINA - A drama on the life
of Blessed Sister Faustina, based upon her experiences recorded in her spiritual diary. She received the
visions of Divine Mercy from Our Lord .
MARCH 18th GOD IS NOT DEAD-College
philosophy professor Mr. Radisson’s curriculum is
challenged by his new student, Josh, who believes
God exists. Can he actually prove the existence of
God? Wouldn’t it just be easier just to write “God is
Dead” and put the whole incident behind him? God’s
Not Dead weaves together multiple stories of faith,
doubt and disbelief, culminating in a dramatic call to
action. The film will educate, entertain, and inspire
moviegoers to explore what they really believe about
God, igniting important conversations and lifechanging decisions.
There will be two showings: one at 9:30 A.M. and an
evening showing at 7:30 P.M. All movies will be shown
in the rectory meeting room. Please call the rectory to
reserve your seat!
SPRING FLEA MARKET
Our Spring Flea Market will take place
on Saturday, March 21st from 9 am till 5
pm. All new merchandise, many new vendors, raffles, 50/50 and much more!! New vendors are welcome! Limited space available! Call 718-4583535 to reserve your table.
ROSARY ALTAR SOCIETY
The next monthly meeting of the rosary altar
society will be on Wednesday, March 4th at
7:15 P.M. We will begin with the rosary followed by
mass and our meeting. The theme of this meeting will be
St. Patrick/St. Joseph Day. We will also be accepting
nominations for Woman of the Year. We look forward
to seeing you all there.
ST. JOSEPH DAY
On Thursday, March 19th , we would like to
invite everyone to Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in commemoration of St. Joseph’s Day.
Adoration will begin after the 9:00 A .M. Mass Vespers at 7:00 P.M. and concluding with Benediction.

“When you receive another, “ St. Augustine said, “you receive Him...Let a hungry Christ be fed here, a thirsty Christ
be given drink, a naked Christ be clothed, a foreigner Christ
be taken in, an ill Christ be visited,” he said. “These are
needs that arise on the journey. This is how we are to live in
a world where Christ is in need.”
