Today, we come to the end of the Easter
season. Pentecost Sunday is considered to be the
grand finale of Easter. This is the time when the
apostles and Mary actively received the Spirit of
God and became the church. Pentecost in the
early centuries was the fifty days of the Easter
season. Athanasius refers to the days of holy Pentecost as the
seven Holy weeks of Pentecost emphasizing that the light of
Easter extends its beams to all seven weeks. Pentecost does
not end or stop. It is viewed and understood as the
prolongation of Easter until the end of time. The explosion of
Easter lasts until the death of the last human being.
This Pentecost Sunday might mark the end of our
Easter season and move into ordinary time, but the meaning
of our existence as Christians united as one Body of Christ
will always be seen in the light of the Easter season. The
descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles and Mary means the
continuation of the redeeming work of God until the end of
time. The celebration of Pentecost renews our commitment
as baptized Christians to continue God’s work here on earth.
The focus of Pentecost is the Holy Spirit sent by the
Father. The Spirit is the binding force of unity and oneness
which is the Church. As Jesus was sent by the Father to
redeem the world, in the same way, the Spirit was sent by the
Father to continue the work until the end of time. The

redeeming works of Jesus is continued now through the
sacraments, especially in the sacrament of the Eucharist.
Liturgy is primarily the work of the Holy Spirit. Today, as we
celebrate Pentecost, let us be aware of the importance of
asking for the grace of the Holy Spirit to be present in our
lives. It is what binds us together to form the one Body of
Christ. Knowing and understanding who we are, and how we
form the Church is important for Christian unity. It is our
obligation as Christians to work together in order to build the
kingdom of God here on earth. We don’t exist for our own
sake. We have been commissioned to continue God’s
redeeming work. Pentecost marks the beginning of this
mission.
Moreover, I like to take this opportunity as we celebrate
our oneness; our unity in diversity, to thank everyone who
helped and supported our Multicultural celebration. As I
also mentioned last week, we got our new Tabernacle in time
for our feast, and this is made possible by your generosity.
Thank you for the financial support. We were able to raise
over $5,000. I am grateful to Larry Laws who built the
platform to elevate the stand and Elizabeth Schneider who
made the beautiful lining inside. They were able to make this
happen in such a short time. I am humbled by all your
support and generosity.

this weekend. All up and coming 6 th graders and 9th
graders are welcome to attend our summer events.

San Andres” for helping to set up before the event, and the
Middle School Youth group for helping out during the event.
Without all of your help the event wouldn’t have been such a

raised $1,086.97, which will go into the Parish and Family Life
funds.

OPPORTUNITIES ELSEWHERE...
Faith leaders from throughout the Portland metropolitan area are
seeking the endorsements of people of faith for a recently drafted
Statement on Housing Justice. The statement enumerates four
“bold” priorities for elected leaders to focus on in order to address
poverty and homelessness in the upcoming budget section: 1) to
allocate more subsidized units for people of low income, especially
those earning less than 30% of the Median Family Income, 2) to
fund a new year-round emergency family shelter in our area, 3) to
expand funding for rental assistance, eviction prevention and
transition support, and 4) to make investments in low-income
neighborhoods, especially those in East Portland. In view of the
current budget cycle, please consider adding your name to the
list of endorsers by May 30th for maximum impact. Review and

LOS PRIMEROS 1000 DÍAS
Una Cultura Católica de la
Iniciativa De Vida
Donde todos son acogidos y amados por la misericordia. Los
1000 días desde la concepción hasta el segundo cumpleaños son los más
cruciales para el desarrollo de un niño. Estos 1000 días son nuestra
mejor oportunidad para dar forma a un bebe más sano, y darle un futuro
más próspero a un niño. ¡A todos los niños!
24 de Mayo: Donde todos son acogidos y amados por la
misericordia - día 70 Casi la mitad de los embarazos entre las
mujeres estadounidenses no son deseados, y cuatro de cada de estos
terminan en un aborto. La mayoría de los bebés están sin nombre hasta
el final de los embarazos de sus madres. Pero lo que es un embarazo
inconveniente para algunos, para otros llega a ser una persona única y
especial en los ojos de Dios.

RICA
Para las personas mayores de 18 años que no han recibido los
Sacramentos de Bautizo, Primera Comunión y Confirmación se
les invita a que se registren para que puedan recibir los
Sacramentos. Estaremos tomando registraciones empezando el
domingo 31 de mayo en el salón de San Francisco.
Hoy domingo termina el tiempo de Pascua.
El domingo de Pentecostés es considerado como el
gran final de la Pascua. Este es el día en el cual los
apóstoles y Maria recibieron el Espíritu de Dios y se
convirtieron en la Iglesia. En los primeros siglos se
consideraba Pentecostés era los 50 días de Pascua. Atanasio
consideraba el santo día de Pentecostés como las “Siete
Semanas Santas de Pentecostés”, enfatizando que la luz de
Pascua se extiende e ilumina por completo todas estas
semanas. Pentecostés no termina ni tiene fin. Es visto y
entendido como la prolongación de Pascua hasta el final de
los días. La explosión de la Pascua dura hasta la muerte del
último ser vivo sobre la tierra.
El domingo de Pentecostés puede marcar el final de
nuestra temporada de Pascua y nos hará movernos hacia el
tiempo ordinario, pero el significado de nuestra existencia,
como cristianos unidos es un mismo Cuerpo de Cristo,
siempre será visto en la luz de la Pascua. Se marca la
continuación del trabajo redentor de Dios hasta el final de
los tiempos en el momento en el que el Espíritu Santo toca a
Maria y a los apóstoles. La celebración de Pentecostés
renueva nuestro compromiso como cristianos bautizados
para continuar el trabajo de Dios aquí en la tierra.
El enfoque de Pentecostés es el Espíritu Santo
mandado por el Padre. El Espíritu es la fuerza de unidad y
de identidad de la Iglesia. Así como Jesús fue enviado por el
padre para salvar al mundo, de la misma manera, el Espíritu
fue enviado por el Padre para continuar el trabajo hasta el
final. El trabajo redentor de Jesús es continuado ahora por
medio de los sacramentos de la Eucaristía. La liturgia es el
primer trabajo del Espíritu Santo. Este domingo, al celebrar
el día de Pentecostés, entendamos que es importante orar
para que la gracia del Espíritu Santo esté presente en
nuestras vidas. Es lo que nos une para formar un solo cuerpo
de Cristo. El saber y entender quiénes somos, y como es que
formamos la iglesia es importante para mantenernos unidos
como cristianos. Es nuestra obligación como cristianos el
trabajar juntos para poder construir el reino de Dios aquí en
la tierra. No existimos nada más por que sí. Hemos sido
comisionados para continuar el trabajo redentor de Dios.
Pentecostés marca el comienzo de esta misión.
Por otra parte, quiero aprovechar esta oportunidad
en este día que celebramos nuestra hermandad y la unidad en
la diversidad de nuestra comunidad para darle las gracias a
todos los que ayudaron y apoyaron nuestra celebración
Multicultural. Así como lo mencione la semana pasada,
adquirimos nuestro nuevo tabernáculo justo a tiempo para la
fiesta de la Ascensión, y esto no hubiera sido posible sin la
generosidad en sus donaciones. Gracias por su apoyo
financiero pudimos juntar un poco más de $5,000. Estoy
ampliamente agradecido con Larry Laws quien construyo la
plataforma para elevar la tarima y a Elizabeth Schneider
quien adorno la parte de adentro, quienes lograron terminar
estos trabajos en tan corto tiempo. Con humildad, les digo
de nuevo que estoy agradecido por todo su apoyo y su
generosidad.

REGISTRACIONES PRIMERA
COMUNION 2016
Empezaremos a tomas registraciones para
niños/as que quieran hacer su Primera
Comunión en mayo del 2016.
Estaremos tomando las registraciones empezando el
domingo 31 de mayo en el salón de San Francisco
después de la Misa de las 12:30pm.
Cuando venga a registrarlos se les pide que
traigan su Acta de Nacimiento y Fe de Bautizo.
El costo antes del 30 de junio es de:
$75.00 por cada niño.
Después del 1ero de julio el costo subirá a
$100.00.
También puede venir a registrarlos durante las horas de
oficina, recuerde que los viernes está cerrado.
MAESTRAS
Empezaremos el nuevo año para
las clases de Primera Comunión y necesitamos
maestras y maestros que nos ayuden con las clases
de catecismo. Si ustedes piensan que pueden dar un
servicio voluntario por un año, acuérdense que lo
están haciendo para Dios y él se los recompensara.
Nosotros les ayudamos y les damos el entrenamiento
que se requiere para aprender a como dar las clases.
Tenemos personas de la Arquidiócesis que las
preparan y les dan los temas que tienen que
enseñar. Pueden ponerse en contacto con la Señora
María Solís al 503-256-3897 ext. 17, durante las
horas de oficina (el viernes está cerrado).
BAUTIZOS
Los próximos bautizos son el día 13 de Junio a las 10:30am. Si
alguien está interesado en bautizar para esa fecha por favor se les
pide que se registren lo más pronto posible. El cupo es limitado.
Cuando vengan a registrarse se les pide traigan la acta de
nacimiento del bebe y recuerde que los padrinos tienen que
estar casados por la iglesia.
Puede venir a registrarlos durante las horas de oficina de lunes a
jueves. Los viernes están cerrados.
