THE SEASON OF ADVENT
Today we will look at the four weeks of Advent to determine what this
season represents, based on prayers said during the lighting of the
Advent Wreath candles and some of the readings and gospels for this
period.
Today is the 1st Sunday of the Advent Season. The prayers of the
Mass ask that hope become a part of our life. We pray that with hope,
we can live in peace, that all people will share their riches with the
poor and that those who are strong will protect those who are weak.
We remember that hope is renewed every Advent Season. The Gospel
communicates hope to us by revealing how God will save faithful
people from evil sources.
During the 2nd Sunday of Advent, we pray for peace. We realize
through our prayer, that peace comes from loving one another and that
only for our devotion to our Lord, comes true peace. We acknowledge
that His love is stronger than our weaknesses, our pride and our fears.
During the 3rd Sunday of Advent, we pray for joy, but know that all
people are not joyful. The readings and Gospel tell us that “The Lord,
your God, is in your midst...” and that we can rejoice in the Lord
always. John the Baptist tells us, what Jesus later affirms, that caring
for those in need, fairness in all our actions and no violence, leads to
authentic joy.
During the 4th Sunday of Advent, we pray for God’s love to dwell in
our hearts. We pray that His love will teach us to love Him and our
neighbors as we love ourselves. The readings and Gospel contain the
basic revelation of the full identity of Jesus, God made man. God so
loves the world that He gave His only Son, so that all who believe in
Him might have eternal life. The Word became Flesh, not to suffer but
to live and to share divine love.
A season of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love is what Advent is about.

THANK YOU, FROM THE HEART!
In a number of Bible passages we find that the heart is the bases of our
emotions, passions, moral decisions, attitudes, and thoughts of our lives. It
is God Himself who is the creator, and we like David cry out “create in me
a pure heart” (Psalm 50). What has happen to our hearts then? Why have
we allowed corrosion, sin, and temptation to live in our hearts? We have
allowed this organ to become deceitful and beyond cure (Jer 17:9).
Undoubtedly our condition is of vital importance for our emotional and spiritual
wellbeing,. For now, just for this time, I would like for us to concentrate on the heart of
which the Bible speaks, grateful and dwelling of the spirit.
Each day in our lives, in all events big or small, we should truly become meticulous and
careful about the details. Now that we have had time to share with our families, did we
truly express our love and consideration for them? If you had the opportunity to sit at the
table and pray to God; to eat a delicious turkey dinner… did you think about the
importance not being about the food but in the strength and unity that came from the
gathering, where the fraternity, simplicity, and at the same time elegance, we could enjoy
not only a good dinner, but more so of the great company.
Many of us might not have had the opportunity to sit at the table; it could be because our
families are far away, it could also be, if indeed they were close, that they did not celebrate.
In any case did this day serve to show you the worth of who you are, of who your loved
ones are and those closest to your heart?
In our parish and in our Church, little by little, we are growing in our love and respect for
God and for ourselves. It shows in the way our space is filling up, not only because of the
number of faithful or parishioners, but of love, compassion, service, and the cry for justice.
Today on this first Sunday of Advent, I hope each of us will call out from the most
profound place: Come Lord Jesus!
It is from a grateful heart that we should pray for one and other. Remember before going to
mass to entrust your brothers and sister to our Lord, at that time they will probably be
leaving the church; equally, we should also remember as we leave the mass those who will
come to occupy the same space we ourselves occupied… All this gratitude in our midst.
Cultivating a gracious heart is no easy task. We have so many conscious and unconscious
obstacles that we need to overcome. Once there is forgiveness and healing we will jump
with joy for all we have discovered, that God is in our lives because we have given Him
control of all that we are and all that we hope for. Furthermore we have experienced the
enormous joy of calling ourselves children of God and have had the unmatched satisfaction
of knowing that the Holy Spirit guides our journey to please our heavenly Father and to
announce to many others “the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his
wonderful light” (1 Peter 2:9). My humble prayer is for the Lord to motivate us that we may
continue to seek more and more, and for Him to grant us a true grateful heart.
Father Cesar Rubiano.

LETTURA DEL GIORNO
PREPARARSI
viviamo. In fine, San Matteo presenta Gesu’ il
raccontatore. Immaginate, ci dice Gesu’, come
erano le cose al tempo di Noe’. Egli ci presenta
Signore verra’. Ma siamo stati avvisati. Forse
troviamo queste scritture allarmanti e minacciose.
Ma in loro c’e’ una promessa. Dobbiamo vivere
nella luce senza nascondere niente. Dobbiamo
essere pronti.
ADVENT PENANCE SERVICE
Whether it has been just a few
weeks or a few years, celebrate the
Sacrament of Reconciliation this
Advent Season. Our Lady of the
Angels Advent Penance Service
will be held at Immaculate
Conception Church on Tuesday, 16
December 2014 at 7:00PM. A number of priests
will be available to hear confessions that evening.
The pictures of our beloved deceased that were
placed on the altar for the month of November will
be placed in the sacristies. Please pick up yours at
your earliest convenience. Thank you for your
cooperation.
A te, Signore, elevo l’anima mia, Dio mio, in te
confido: che io non sia confuso. Non trionfino su di me i
miei nemici. Chiunque spera in te non resti deluso.

STEWARDSHIP EXPRESSIONS
Advent provides an opportunity for us to begin
again and to prepare ourselves anew for the
coming of Jesus Christ. It is a time of waiting and
expectation, of anticipation and preparation. We
can use the coming weeks for personal prayer,
growth and change in the way we live.
Anticipating the Nativity of Jesus, we can
dedicate special time toward considering our
relationship with him. As we recall previous
Advents, we remember those who inspire us
through their faith and actions. We too can be
memorable mentors and models to others through
our demonstrations of discipleship and
stewardship.

READING OF THE DAY
GETTING READY
Today marks the beginning of another
liturgical year. The tone of today’s
readings casts us in the role of
students learning solemn lessons. The
reading from Isaiah sets the stage, calling us up a
mountain to receive the Lord’s instruction. In this
passage we study peace. Then Paul steps forth with
sober admonitions. We have to wake up; the day is
almost here. Live honorably in the light. Paul
reminds us that we really do know the time in
which we are living. Finally, Matthew presents
Jesus the storyteller. Just imagine, Jesus tells us,
what it was like in Noah’s time. He paints a vivid
picture of ordinary people living ordinary lives and
ignoring the warnings that Noah heeded. Totally
unconcerned, they were destroyed. How will it be
any different for us? No one knows when the Lord
will come. But we have been warned. Perhaps we
find such sobering scriptures unappealing and
threatening. But within them there is promise. We
are to live in the light with nothing to hide. We are
to be ready.
TODAY’S READINGS: First Reading: Isaiah
63: 16b-17 Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 1: 3-9
Gospel: Mark 13:33-37
Lord, rend the heavens and come down. Come
and save us from our sins. Let us turn again to
you and so be found blameless when you return
in glory. From Ordo 2013
REFLECTION QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK
ADULT: Name one thing you will do each day this
week to remind yourself of Jesus’ coming?
CHILD: What can you do each day this week to get
ready for Jesus to come into your heart?
To you, I lift up my soul, O my God. In you, I have
trusted; let me not be put to shame. Nor let my enemies
exult over me; and let none who hope in you be put to
shame. (Cf. Psalm 25 (24):1-3)

nuestras emociones, pasiones, decisiones morales, actitudes y pensamientos
y respeto a Dios y a nosotros mismos.
verdaderamente agradecido.
Bendiciones,
Fr. Caesar A. Rubiano

destruidos. ¿Podrá ser diferente para nosotros?
Nadie sabe cuando vendrá el Señor. Pero nos
advirtió. Tal vez pensemos que ese tipo de
Escritura es desagradable y amenazante. Pero
contiene promesas. Debemos vivir en la luz; con
nada escondido. Debemos estar listos.
LAS POSADAS: Una vez más
invitamos a nuestros feligreses a
unirse en la celebración de Las
Posadas. Esta tradición recuerda
el viaje de María y José por
Belén en búsqueda de posada antes del
nacimiento de Jesús. Serán 9 días recorriendo
diferentes hogares. Favor ver la lista adjunta para
las familias que recibirán las posadas. Todos son
bienvenido.
A ti, Señor, levanto mi alma; Dios mío, en ti confío,
no quede yo defraudado.

nuestro orgullo y nuestros temores.
