We need at least one more adult, over age 25, and we still have openings for youth and young adults. Right now, we know that we are going to Kentucky, which has some of the poorest counties in the country. Our trip dates are June 27th to July 6th. If you are interested in celebrating our 30th YEAR helping some of the nicest, friendliest, most thankful people in our country, then come join us. NO skills are needed, only your 2 hands and a desire to help. There are jobs to do like building foundations, wall board, tiling, painting, and wood working. Your job might even be to sit and talk with the families. They will love you! We can’t explain it; you have to experience it! Please contact Karen Wenhold at 215 264-7042 to request an application packet. We need to have our teams completed by Feb. 8th, so don’t delay! If a tree falls in the woods… ASP will sell it!! Thank you, thank you, thank you, to all of our Trinity family and friends who purchased our Christmas trees this year. We see many of you each year, and this was no different. We sold ALL of our trees and donated two to needy families . Approximately 30 youth and adults took part in setting up, selling, and wrapping the trees. We worked through rain and wind and cold, not only selling trees, but also building our relationships that are so important to working together next summer. YOUR support means so much to us. Kentucky awaits us! PAGE 5 www.trinitylansdale.com ADULT FORUM January 11th From Jesus to Christ: The First Christians: Part 4 During the second and third centuries, Christianity takes a foothold in the Roman Empire. Why did Christianity succeed when other religions did not One of the amazing things during this time was the diversity of beliefs that existed in Christianity. This part concludes with the reign of Constantine in the beginning of the fourth century and the major impact his decisions had on Christianity. Mlk service project Help Sort/Organize Household Items Donated for Refugee Families Monday, Jan. 19, 9 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Help refugees who are resettling in the Philadelphia area. Over the past year, many churches have donated household items for refugees, but the storage space needs to be organized and the household items need to be sorted. Please consider helping out. We will be meeting at St. Marks Lutheran Church, 508 Harry Street, Conshohocken. We will be working from 9noon. Break for a pizza lunch with a short information session about refugee resettlement work and how people can help. Then if people want to continue to work, they are welcome to stay. Contact Jane Jorgensen at 215-470-8005, for more information. The new refugee family living in Souderton (a single mother and 6 young kids - four to be in school soon) needs help getting to the grocery store on a weekly basis. The mother doesn't speak any English but is now fairly familiar with American grocery stores and how to buy the food with her food stamp card. One person could handle this task when the four oldest start school but it probably works best for two people to work together. Household Item Collections Lutheran Children and Family Service resettles many refugee families each year to the Philadelphia area. Refugees often arrive here with very little - their belongings fitting into one small bag. For refugees to begin a new life in the USA, they need many things. One way we can help them is by providing a furnished place they can call home. Below is a list of some of the additional items that are still needed. Can openers – manual is best Cookware (pots, pans, saucepans) Kitchen trash bins and bags Dust pans Dish soap Sponges Brooms Mops Mini trash bins and bags Laundry detergent Bathroom cleaner Pillows (new) Digital alarm clocks Toilet paper Bars of soap Queen or twin bed sheets Contact Jane Jorgensen at 215-470-8005, for more information. Thursday, January 15, 2015-Martin Luther King Jr., renewer of society, martyr, died 1968 An American prophet of justice among races and nations, King was an eloquent preacher, a leader of the nonviolent resistance to race-segregated society, and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Born on this date, he was assassinated on April 4, 1968. Saturday, January 17-Antony of Egypt, renewer of the church, died around 356 One of the earliest of the Egyptian desert fathers, Antony gave away his sizeable inheritance and became a hermit. Later he became leader of a group of monks who devoted themselves to prayer, worship, and labor. Saturday, January 17-Pachomius, renewer of the church, died 346 Born in Egypt, Pachomius became a Christian while a soldier. He became a hermit (a solitary monk) and organized others into a religious community. His rule for monasteries influenced later ones in both the Eastern and Western churches. Sunday, January 18-Confession of Peter Today the church remembers the apostle Peter's great acknowledgement of Jesus as "the Christ, the Son of the living God." This festival serves as a fitting beginning to the week in which we particularly pray that all Christians might be united in faith and witness. From Sundays and Seasons.com.
