canción religiosa que cantan nuestros niños y el tema
de las tres Lecturas de la Misa de hoy. En la Primera
Lectura Dios promete que la prosperidad ( esto conlleva la
paz) correrá sobre Jerusalén como un río – meravillosas palabras de
consuelo para un pueblo cansado y desalentado después del terrible
exilio sufrido en Babilonia. San Pablo habla de paz y misericordia a
todos los que son creaturas nuevas por la Cruz de Jesucristo. “ Paz a
esta casa es el saludo de los discípulos traen al entrar a las casas en
la misión que Jesús les encimienda en el Evangelio de hoy. Si en esa

“Peace is flowing like a river” is the name of a religious song
that our young children sing and a theme we can find in all
three Readings of today’s Mass. In the First Reading God
promises that prosperity (and thus peace) will flow over Jerusalem like a river-wonderful words of comfort to a tired and dispirited people
after the terrible exile in Babylon. St. Paul speaks of peace and mercy to all
as we are created anew through the cross of Jesus Christ. “Peace to this
household” is the greeting the disciples are to bring on entering any house
in their mission from Jesus in today’s Gospel. If there is a welcome for
peace in that home, then peace will rest on everyone there and the healing
and the Good News of God’s love can be shared. Peace is the gift of God.
When it is welcomed, peace flows over the world “like a river.”

We continue to rejoice in our new Parish Church at St. Mary’s in Palm •
dale. Let us work together to show respect for God’s House and to
keep it clean (no chewing gum or drinks or food, no graffiti, no crayons,
etc). One parent should accompany any child who goes to the rest
room. We have two family rooms for families with children who are
having a difficult time in Church and we ask parents to take your child
to the family room when the child is upset or making a lot of noise. We

appreciate the cooperation of all in these matters.

You are invited to help clean the Church each Monday from 12:00 to
3:00 PM. No registration, no commitment – just come and help care
for God’s House.

de cada Ministerio, para invitarles a todos a colaborar en el trabajo de Iglesia en nuestra Parroquia.
Continuamos regocijándonos en nuestra nueva Iglesia de Santa
María, en Palmdale. Vamos a trabajar juntos para mostrar respeto y mantener limpia la Casa de Dios,( no pintando graffiti, ni
masticando chicle, ni trayendo bebidas a la Iglesia, ni dando
crayones a los niños). Un padre debe acompañar a su hijo
cuando necesita ir al baño. Contamos con dos salones para
familias con niños, así cuando los niños estén inquietos y
llorando puedan atenderlos sin que perturben a las otras
personas que atienden la Santa Misa. Apreciamos verdaderamente su cooperación en estos asuntos.
• Todos están invitados a colaborar en la limpieza de la
Iglesia cada lunes de 12:00 a 3:00 PM. No necesita registrarse ni hacer un compromiso – solo venga a ayudar en el

WELCOME TO OUR NEW ASSOCIATE PASTOR
We welcome to our parish our new Associate Pastor, father
Christopher Bazyouros, who has been assigned to St. Mary’s
by the archdiocese of Los Angeles as Associate Pastor, beginning July . Father Chris has been serving as Associate Pastor
at St. Joseph’s in Hawthorne since his ordination to the priesthood four years ago. We hope and pray that his time at St.
Mary’s will be happy and fruitful in the service of God and his
people.
NOTES ON A NEW PARISH HALL
Preparations for the construction of the new Parish Hall, meeting
rooms and Parish Offices are now being completed. The land has
been graded and prepared for the foundations of the new buildings.
City of Palmdale building permits are now complete. We hope that
the construction work will be completed in March, 2008. The stained
glass windows from the Old Church are now in storage – many will
be on display in the New Hall. In September or October we hope to
have a sale of items from the Old Church (some doors, ceiling fans,
lighting fixtures, etc).
The Archdiocese expects our parish to repay the loans for all the construction – of $13 million. Your faithful and generous fulfillment of
your pledge to the Capital Campaigns of 2003 and 2005 is all important. This is your parish. The parish must pay its bills and meet its
debts. Your generous giving helps our parish grow and serve the
Lord and all people.

Not all churches that use the word “ Catholic “ in their title are Roman
Catholic and in communion with the Holy Father, Pope Benedict, or
under the jurisdiction of the local Roman Catholic Archbishop of Los
Angeles. Though lawfully calling themselves “Catholic” under secular
law, some of these Churches have broken away from our Church
because of disagreements over the teachings and reforms mandated
by both the First and the Second Vatican Councils.
It is not lawful, in our Church law, for Roman Catholics to receive
sacraments in these Churches, and one does not fulfill one’s obligations by attending their services. Furthermore, the sacraments received would in most instances be invalid for Roman Catholics.

EL NUEVO SALON PARRQUIAL
Los preparativos para el nuevo Salón Parroquial, salones de juntas y
oficinas parroquiales se han terminado. La tierra ha sido removida y
emparejada y preparada para poner los cimientos de los nuevos edificios. La Ciudad de Palmdale ha concedido los permisos para la construcción. Esperamos, si todo marcha bien, que se termine en marzo del
2008. Las ventanas con imágenes que había en la Iglesia antigüa se han
guardado – muchas de ellas se usarán en algún lugar en el nuevo Salón
Parroquial. En septiembre u octubre esperamos tener una venta de objetos de la Iglesia antigüa ( algunas puertas, ventiladores de techo, lámparas, etc.)
La Arquidiócesis espera que nuestra Parroquia pague los dos préstamos
para la construcción - $ 13 millones de dólares en total. El cumplimiento fiel y generoso de su promesa a las Campañas Capitales del
2003 y 2005 es sumamente importante. Esta es su Parroquia. Tenemos
qué pagar todas nuestras deudas y recibos. Su ayuda generosa permite a
nuestra Parroquia a crecer y servir al Señor y a su Pueblo.

PEACE
The greeting of peace at Mass adds substance to a
message of today’s readings: peace is relational. When
we greet in peace the person near us at Mass, we share
the touch of a handshake or embrace, sincere eye contact,
and friendly words.
The scriptures speak of a similar peace. The first
reading from Isaiah describes the peace of the holy city,
Jerusalem, a place of prosperity and comfort where the
“LORD’s power shall be known to his servants” (Isaiah
66:14c).
The Christian understanding of peace changes
slightly. Paul writes of the “peace and mercy” on all who
are created anew. Jesus describes a feeling of peace that
will rest on those who accept his disciples and their message.
Peace is both an absence of strife and a personal
blessing. May we always and sincerely bring peace to
our own lives as we share it with others.

LA PAZ
El saludo de la paz en la misa fundamenta un mensaje
de las lecturas de hoy: la paz es relacional. Cuando le damos la paz a la persona que está cerca de nosotros en la
misa, compartimos el roce de un apretón de manos o un
abrazo, el contacto visual sincero y palabras amistosas.
Las Escrituras hablan de una paz similar. La primera
lectura de Isaías describe la paz como la ciudad sagrada,
Jerusalén, un lugar de prosperidad y de consuelo donde
“Los siervos del Señor conocerán su poder” (Isaías
66:14c).

The Baptismal Font is very important in our
Church. Through the waters of Baptism we
receive new and eternal life in Jesus, our sins
are washed away, and we become members
of the People of God, the Church. We ask
everyone to respect the Baptismal Font.
Please do not sit on the sides of the Font. Nor
is it a place to throw coins. Parents: the Baptismal Font is not a play area for children.
Please do not allow the children to play
around the Font or try to climb in (there is a
danger of a child falling in and being hurt).
Parents; please do not become angry with the
Ushers when they ask you to protect your
children and keep them away from playing at
the Font. Our concern is for the safety of your
children. The Baptismal Font is there for the
celebration of life in Jesus. We bless ourselves with holy water from the Font to remind
ourselves of the Blessings of our Baptism,
especially of eternal life in Jesus.

The first day of school for next school year is August 27, 2007,
Monday. Please remember to bring student’s class pass to
school.
School Registration for Kindergarten through 8th Grade
Applications are available for the 2007/2008 school year.
There is a $15.00 application fee at the time you pick up your
application. When applying for St. Mary’s Kindergarten program, children must be 5 years old by December 1, 2007 and
are encouraged to be 5 years of age by September 1, 2007. You
may pick up the application between the hours of 8:30 am and
